Hey everyone.

I've been thinkin about getting a crate power block, and a Behringer Ultrastack BG412S 4x12 stereo cab. I'll be running me PodXT Live into the powerblock whhich is stereo. so i have 2 questions:

Do Cabs sound better if they are stereo for effects or does it not really make a noticable difference in a live setup?

and, are the behringer cabs really shitty or what? I've read great reviews. and im on a budget.

thanks

Playing live, it will only (usually) make a diff if the PA is stereo, both sides are mic'ed separately, and your sound is hard panned. That said, I sometimes play in stereo even when the above is not true, just because I like the way it sounds to me while I am playing.

I would re-think the Power Block. Cheap solid state amp, and it's not going to sound very good, I don't think.

Depending on how you want to use the Pod XTL, you might also want to rethink the speakers as well. If you are planning on using the Pod's amp and cab modeling cababilities you would be better off using a power amp driving a full-range PA speaker. Pod users have run into trouble getting a good sound when they are driving guitar amp/cab setups.

My opinion is that zaphod is right. Save your money and get something better than the Behringer. Nothing wrong with that POD though.

My experience has been that 99% of all live gigs are set up mono. The only time I can remember actually hearing true stereo at a concert was when I saw YES back in the late 70's..... it's just too difficult to get it so that the whole crowd hears everything all the time if it is rigged for stereo....

Ditto on the mono, Soundchaser.

When I used to do a lot of performing, we never ran a stereo mix. Most of our playing environments would muddy up the sound to the point that trying to attempt stereo imaging was pointless.

As far as running your stage rig stereo - whatever you like to hear on stage is fine. The stereo imaging from a single cab will be lost a few feet out. I have known a couple of guitarists who run a true left / right stereo rig when in small clubs and not micing the guitar amps. The problem with this setup is that you can only hear half of your output very well.

I have heard plenty of great stereo concert mixes, and I have even heard it done well in clubs. It's not that tough, though YMMV.

I also tried playing live with just a Pod into the PA. It sucked; my bandmate with his mic'ed Twin just walked all over me, no matter what I did.

Yeah, I've heard really mixed reviews about using the POD XTL live. Some people have good success, othes have experiences like yours.

I find that the presets on the Pod XTL are pretty gutless and require lots of tinkering, even to record direct. I've never had the opportunity to use it live, so we'll see how it works out.

I control my pod with the comp. i tweak it on that. just my pref. I'll take what you guys said into consideration.
