I know this question has been asked 100's of times but I am a newbie so please forgive me.

I have a AMD900mhz, 320mb RAM, 9.1G and 2.1G HD, and CDRW. What I want to know is, what do I need next to set up my computer to do some multi track recording. I don't have a tom of money so it needs to be fairly inexpensive.

I don't have any fancy guitar equipment. just the standard cab and head and a few pedals.

I just want to know what I need to make some decent sounding recordings. I guess I would also need software to do the recording and some type of drum machine.

thanks for the help (hopefully). feel free to IM on AOL.
bloodltn is my buddy name.

thanks,

Here's how I went when I first started. This is the bare minimum.

1) Soundcard. Cheap, demo quality: Creative Labs PCI128, Soundblaster Live!, etc. $30-$100
2) Microphone. Shure SM57 or SM58. $80.
3) Microphone preamp. ART Tube MP. $100
4) Multi-track software. n-Track Studio. http://www.fasoft.com $35
5) Drum software. Fruity Loops. http://www.fruityloops.com $99?
6) SansAmp Bass Driver DI box. http://www.tech21nyc.com/ $120
7) The POD from Line6 http://www.line6.com makes recording decent guitar sounds very easy. $300 (but not necessary...especially if you like your amp & are in a place where you can crank it)

Slackmaster 2000

now THAT.....

is a very good list.

I agree with S2k, except I hate the POD, but hey, thats just My Opinion:)
