hi, i just decided to start recording stuff a little. i don't know really anything about it...i've been really into music and things like that for a long time. just recording i don't know a lot about. i went to dorseys to buy some equipment and the guy there helped me out a little and i got..a peavey PV8 8 channel mixer, peavey 5 mic drum kit and a shure 57 mic. also an m-audio fast track interface with to connect the board to my computer and i've got cakewalk home studio for software. for some reason i'm not able to record onto cakewalk. i hit record and all that it just doesn't record anything. i've used soundforge a little bit because there is a trail vesion and im able to record with that so i don't know what the deal is..any help would be appreciated/

Check in cakewalk's setup for audio hardware and make sure your soundcard is being recognized in the program. Also make sure it is selected as the device for recording.

And go into your pc's settings and make sure DMA is enabled.

Also... make sure you assign an input to the channel you are trying to record to and are arming the channel before you hit record.

Yep, that arming the track thing drove me up the wall for a while, untill I got used to it. By the way, I hated Cakewalk at first, but after a while it kind of grows on you. Like any software, you have to use it enough to become familiar with its features and opperations system.
