Hello,
I am in the process of upgrading my computer to do some recording. This will be just for a home studio doing demo quality stuff. What I need is 2 ins, 2 outs and MIDI in/out. I don't want to spend a ton of money. The cards that I have been looking at are Echo MIA, M-Audio Audiophile 2496, and E-mu 0404. What are the pros and cons of each of these cards? My OS is WindowsXP. I will probably be using N-track or Tracktion for software. Thanks for any info you guys can send my way.

IMO, I think the Echo Mia is the best of the lot you mentioned. Solid drivers and balanced 1/4" ins and outs. It's about $179, but for the same price,
you could get the new Maudio Audiophile 192 (superior specs to the Echo, and separate monitor outs).

Also, if it's in your budget to spend $50 more ($229), you should consider the Maudio 1010LT(8 ins and outs). That way, you won't have to replace your
card is you decide two inputs and outputs are not enough.

Finally, make sure you download and register the free Trackion(2 days left).

well, i wish i could tell you how i like my 0404 but i haven't gotten it to work yet...

creative

Im into the creative line, Im pretty impressed with their work and flexibility, but I would like to ask you

how good would a brand new Creative EMU 1820 pro series be? also what about the new Audigy 4 line? lol when you hit shift when typing you get Audigy $

:p

That sucks! I just bought a 2496 in December because the Mia was $179 at that time.
The echo either must be getting discontinued, or had to decrease it's price to compete
with the 2496, 0404, and Terratec Phase 22(all $100).
