Here are my specifics:

Room - 7.5'x8'x13', untreated
Drums - 10", 13" toms, 16" kick
Cymbals - mellow Ks
Interface - Presonus Audiobox (2 channels!)
Music - rock, jazz

I'm a newb and want to experiment with different mic setups - recorderman, mono OH & FOK, etc. Bearing in mind the considerations above, would you recommend an identical pair for OHs or would it be better to mix it up a bit, maybe an LDC and a SDC? I like the idea of 3035s on OH, seems one would do well on FOK as well, but I read LDCs pick up more room, bad for me. But SDCs in my price range tend to hype the highs...I'm getting confused. So again, in this case, SDCs, LDCs, or one of each?

Thanks!

Hmmm...
Can I give you another option?
Try a 57 on the Snare OR a Kick mic on the Kick, and a LDC right in front of your head as you play, this is strange but if you have a limited mic setup, this might get you your best sound...

If you want to experiment with sounds, don't get the same two mics.
If you want to experiment with positions, get the same two mics...

With only 2 inputs, it is hard for me to say...

If I could only use two mics at a time with my mic locker I would do this:
2x MXL 4000s over the drumset
or this:
2x MXL 603s over the drumset
or this:
1x Baby Bottle in front of my head
1x Audix D6 on Kick

If your trying to eliminate room sound, dont do with omni LDCs, they will pick up too much!

BUT If you like classic Jazz recordings, rooms sound is good...

WHAT are you trying to record? WHAT kind of sound are you wanting?
These questions will help people out with helping you :)

Hope I helped!
I am Interested to see what people will say...

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Julien.

I just happened upon a Craigslist ad for two lightly used AT3035s for $160 so I'm going to jump on that if I can...
