Here's my setup:

Mixer: Yamaha MG 10/2
http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/products/mixer/a_mixer/mg_series/mg10_2/index.htm

USB Soundcard: Edirol UA1A (1 out - 1 in)

http://www.edirol.com/products/info/ua1a.html

Cubase SX 2.2.39
USB AUDIO driver 2.55

I need to record my guitar and monitor previously recorded music in cubase at the same time without using headphones.

The mixer has a rec out, but if I connect there I will feed the card line IN with the pc sound and there will be a loop. (The Pc is connected to the mixer)

Every channel has AUX1-OFF-AUX2, I can send signal through AUX SEND 1 to the card and just send the guitar to the computer. Using this method I only get 1 Channel (Left) and the signal is too loud and can't level it from the mixer, it gets distorted. I don't know if this AUX out is stereo or mono.

How can I connect this mixer to my soundcard and record just the signal I want and keep listening to the pc in my monitors?

Willy.

Connect the Inserts on channels 1 & 2 to the inputs of your soundcard. Push the 1/4" jacks in to the 1st click only in the inserts.

Connect the soundcard outputs to the 2TR In jacks on the mixer. Now connect the CR-Outs to you speakers for monitoring

Thanks for the response!

I did what you suggested. It worked, the only thing is I'm only recording the left channel in cubase. If I want to record a mic then the voice will be on the left side.

What if I insert a stereo 1/4" jack and split it in two RCA jacks? will that give the stereo?

its actually probably better to record it in mono. Recording the same signal to a stereo track just uses twice the harddrive space and really accomplishes nothing. Im not sure about cubase..but ill bet there is a way to choose to record in mono and choose either the right or left channel as your input. This will record just one track right down the center.

EDIT:

I just re-read your post and noticed that your soundcard has only 1 in. In this case...you wont have any options as to what input but you can still choose right or left from that input. You can actually get 2 seperate tracks recorded with that card...just plug one mic into channel one of the mixer and pan it hard right. plug one mic into channel 2 and pan hard left. Now..get a "Y" cable that has stereo 1/4 on one side and 2 mono 1/4's on the other. Connect the 2 mono's to your mixer outs, and the stereo side to your soundcard in.

Thanks to everyone who answered!!!

It's working!!! : First I did what Bulls said:

"Connect the Inserts on channels 1 & 2 to the inputs of your soundcard. Push the 1/4" jacks in to the 1st click only in the inserts"

I only used 1 insert at a time.

I used a Y adapter: 1/4" mono (connected in the insert on the first click) -> two 1/4" mono connected to the sondcard's left and right inputs.

That way I get a mono signal and I can record in stereo (two channels) or mono (one channel) in cubase.

I repeated the same procedure for the other insert channel for another mic or a guitar.

Now I can monitor what's already recorded while recording!!
