I need to know what sound card/line in to buy to complete my setup. I'll be mic'ing my Carvin Legacy 212 Combo amp.

I have a Carvin CM50 mic (similar to Shure SM57) to mic my amp.
I have a Behringer 8 input mixer with 2 preamp'd mic inputs.
I have a very good laptop (3GHz P4w/HT, 1GB RAM), but the sound card stinks (has a mic in, but no line in).

I'll need a line in to my computer.... I was thinking about getting the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB sound card: HERE

Some people said the Audigy was great, but suggested I get an M-Audio or Echo line in instead, which I understand. I've found the M-Audio MobilePre: HERE and the Echo Indigo IO: HERE

What would be the best for me out of those? Would you recommend any others instead? How would that Echo Indigo IO really do? It sure is small..... I'm looking to spend about $100 (I can use ebay to reach that goal). Thanks for helping!

Thanks, but that's way over my budget. Have any other suggestions?

oops...my bad...I didnt read that far down........

maybe sell the Behringer and get the Duo....the pre's on it are better than the Behringer.......

The NX is an absolute piece of shit. I bought one last Tuesday and returned it two days later. Latency is terrible and Creative likes to bend the truth as far as the features and true capabilities.

You will not find a decent USB/PC-Card or Firewire device for less than $150-$200.

If you cannot afford that now, save up your money. It will make your life easier in the long run.

Gotcha..... how about the Echo Indigo IO? (I just posted a thread asking about that) Thanks for the help

I bought an Echo Indigo IO, but it is imcompatible with my computer, so I have to send it back (card/cardbus controller driver conflicts). What should I get to replace it? I'd like to have a good line in that is also a sound card. What should I be looking at? If I don't get any good suggestions, I'll probably just get the Creative Audigy 2 NX. I'm looking to record my guitar/amp onto my computer with very respectable quality. Thanks

Where do you see it for $149? I only see it for $259. Also, is this a sound card also, or just an audio interface? Thanks!

WOW... great price! Thanks! How do they under price the other dealers by over $100? I see it at Musician's Friend and ZZounds for $259.

By sound card I meant something that'll play my computer sounds and music (like my mp3s and CDs I load) at a higher quality. Does it do that too? Thanks again!

Also, is this a USB 2.0 device? or 1.1?

don't go usb 1.1

unless you're only doing a few channels at 48khz, or a single channel at 96khz. If you must go with USB go with a 2.0 device like the edirol 1000 model I think.

Go with firewire if you have to go out of the box, or if you can PCI, where the Maudio Revolution is $80, and the Delta 410 is $100.

Are the M-Audio Duo and Tascam US-122 both USB 1.1?

I didn't see the revolution or the Delta 410... are they for desktops?

Also, I have a laptop, so I have to go either USB, Firewire, or PCMCIA interface.

yes,

the ones you mention are slow USB 1.1.

Try a Cardbus to firewire adapter if your notebook doesn't have a firewire port on it.

or if you're doing single tracking of 24/48 or less, usb 1.1 *may* be ok.

I do have USB, I do have firewire, I do have PCMCIA.

Also, I don't think that M-Audio would make things in USB 1.1 if they didn't work...... I know 2.0 is better, and I'd like to have 2.0, but the Edirol one you mentioned in $650. Firewire or PCMCIA would also be great. I'm looking to spend at most $150-$200.

Read some reviews on the M-Audio Quattro.

Quattro is a 4 channel, double the amount of the DUO.......that could strain usb 1.1.....

also, if you read reviews, check the date....these 2 units started life with serious driver issues that arent relevant now.....

Since it's just me, I think I'd only be recording one channel (maybe two, when I play guitar with my cousin) at a time.... for example, making a track of rhythm guitar, then making a track of lead guitar, then adding drums, then adding bass. Just wanted to through that in incase it's relevant info. Will I have any trouble at all doing 2 channels of 96k with USB 1.1?

I'm definately leaning towards the M-Audio Duo or the Tascam US-122. Slight edge to the Tascam, due to getting the software with it, and it being USB powered.

Tascam 122 is 48khz max

According to the M-Audio Duo manulal, you can only use one stereo pr for 96khz. For both stereo inputs enabled, you need to go 48khz or lower.
