Ok well I'm not NORMALLY and idiot but I seem to be when it comes to setting up any kind of home recording setup... I tried the Roland Stusio package Pro - came with Logic and I spent so many hours trying to get this thing configured and working on so many different occasions (I set it up and took it down so many times) before I finally sold it... with not one thing accomplished.

I am pretty computer savvy and consider myself above par when it comes to that sort of thing but with that setup - forget it...

So now here I am again trying to find a setup that will allow me some software instruments to match with my live guitar, bass and vocals... I have a good PC so I'm not sure if I want to go software again or I was actually thinking of the BC1600CD... I wanna record some demos and some pod based radio shows so not sure the best way to go at this point...

ANY help would be appreciated... looking for the slightest learning curve...

Thanks guys

If all your terms and names are correct and you are trying to set up Logic on a PC I'm not suprised that it didn't work. Logic is a Mac-only audio/midi sequencer and has been since Apple bought them out a couple of years ago.

No software package has no learning curve at all, but Tracktion comes the closest. Here's a link to the demo version --- LINK --- and if you like it it's only $150 to buy your own copy. It will open up the wonderful world of softsynths and soft effects with it's ability to run VST plugins.

You'll also need an interface - I use and recommend this one. And whether you go the software or the hardware route you'll need monitor speakers to hear what you're recording accurately. At home I use these. Depending on how you are equipped for a midi keyboard, you may need one of those, and they're thick on the ground these days. Go here and out of the 75 models they have available pick one that's in your price range and then post your choice in the 'Keyboards' forum asking for opinions and good/bad experiences.

Since you already have the computer all this together should come to less than the cost of a single BC1600CD --- and you don't get monitors with that.

Welcome to the board and good luck.

thanks man... yeah when I bought the roland studio package pro bundle it did come with logic for the PC but I think it was like a month later that they no longer were going Mac only... Roland offered Sonic next to replace logic but just making everything work together was crazy... thanks for those links - I am going to visit them all now.

Welcome to the confusing world of PC recording. For someone wanting to learn the basics, I recomend that you download Audacity, it's a free multi track mixer/recorder with efx. It's simple to understand and use and a great tool for getting a good idea of how PC recording works (also works with almost any PC or laptop, and almost any soundcard) and the same basic concepts will also apply to most other recording software. You can also download a number of limited/trial versions of recording software, try them untill you find one that suits you, they all do very similar things but the layout and opperation will vary from one product to the next, find one you feel comfortable with. I'm more of a musician than an engineer so simple and easy was a main concern of mine in the beginning (and still is most of the time.) After learning the basics, I settled in on N Trax, maybe not the best on the market but it serves my needs well.

So should I get a soundcard. midi keyboard and interface first?
