Mystery Solved - it's a Shure 585

Not sure how to trace the model / MFG of this microphone, so I'm hoping
you can all lend some clues.

This thing is about 15 years old (could be more); possibly made by AKG.

It uses a 1/4" connector. It's a very heavy, solid metal body.

Compared to some of my other high priced microphones, this bad-boy sounds
very good!

THis clip came with the microphone...it may be a match, or just a random clip.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't think that the clip goes with that mic. The mic kinda looks like a realistic high ball. But it's hard to tell.

Shure Unisphere

Hi,

I agree with moresound that it looks like a high ball. I also have some vintage Shure Unispheres with that connector. I think Shure made some of the highballs but I have not seen that documented.

Either way, highball or unisphere, they're pretty good mics for live vocals and recording cabinets.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

WOW, You nailed it Jim!

It's a Shure 585 harp mic.

I've had a Realistic mic before, and I'll tell you the Shure is nothing like it.
The Realistic is tinny, cheap feeling and sounding.

The Shure has a very warm tone (mid and low freq. response), and is a solid
build. It must weigh about 2 pounds! :P

The clip does not belong to the microphone as it has an AKG logo on it.

Thanks for the help everyone; I'll need to find some stats on this thing.
