HELP: I need the best $3-400.00 preamp

hi everyone..I was woundering if anybody had any good ideas for a preamp..I have a grace design m101..I just need a second one..something better than my digi 003 pre's...Thanks!!!

+1 for the used RNP. There are some others out there (e.g., GT MP-1), but probably not as commonly available. If you only need a single channel, maybe a GT Brick.

It's nice, but pretty unlikely to be in his price bracket when the auction ends. Those will typically go for $500-600 used. Street price for a new one is $715. Worth watching though -- might get lucky.

Yeah, they pretty commonly go for $375-425. Decent for 2 channels. And you can use your RNCs with the inserts.

A used ART MPA Gold plus a change of tubes would come in right around there. I have two of them, one with Amperex 12ax7's and the other with Telefunken 12ax7's, and I think they're one of the best preamp deals out there. Lots of flexibility...different flavor than the Grace 101.

+1. Yep, mine gets a lot of use as well. The variable impedence is a great bonus.

I have both and they are both excellent for the dough.
I'd still try to steal that Apogee first.

You already have a grace. If you want something different, get the ART. If you want something more similar, get the RNP. At least that's the way I see it.
