Hi,
I havn't been able to play back any audio on my computer for about four days now.
Can't seem to find the problem.

When I try to play a wav. or mp3,it says no audio hardware is avalible or it's not responding.
In Control panel when I look up plug and play audio drive,it tells me there is a resourse conflict, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

Any help would be really appreciated,I'm dying here!

Thanks,
Pete

We can try to hunt down the problem, but the easiest path (at least from this end) is to figure out what happened 4 days ago. Any ideas? If not, what type of ...
system / soundcard / software / name / rank / serial number ...you know the drill :)

Thanks Sean,thought I was a goner!:(

The other day,my keyboard went out.
My wife and I tried to bring it back up,but we wound up replacing it with an old one I have.
We are not sure what we did,but we tried everything to get it to work.

If not, what type of system / soundcard / software / name / rank / serial number ...you know the drill ...

I use Win 95,with the original soundblaster card.
Computer is a Compaq presario 4824,233 meghtz,96meg ram,6 gig.

My wife runs a full Word pro package on it.

The audio stuff I have on it is,old version of Cubase,Cakewalk guitar tracks/J station edit,Lame/Razorlame, Chainsaw,a couple of free ripping softwares, and I recently replaced my cd drive with a cdrw which included Pyro software.
I'm about 6',brown eye's,190lbs,and people always tell me I look like Kevin Kline.
(Like that's supposed to make me feel good!)
I enjoy camping,fishing,and watching sunsets.
Can you help me?:D

Really Sean,thanks!
I'm dying here without it !

It sounds like there is a driver or IRQ conflict. I would try completely uninstalling all SB drivers and reinstall. If that doesn't work then remove all your PCI cards and reinstall the SB. Then reinstall the other cards.

Thanks Tex,

I don't have the 95 software on disc,it came loaded with the computer.
Do you think I can just pull the card out, uninsstall it,and put it back in?
Will it recognize it?
Do I uninstall it from the Control Panel?

Thanks,
Pete

Was there, by any chance, any software with the keyboard? (I know, kinda of a long shot)

Usually, the easiest route is to backtrack one step at a time. These things usually don't happen when nothing has been changed.

Were there any other drivers or software installed since then? Any other cards or hardware?

That's not to say that it can't happen though. If you're sure nothing else has changed, then go with Tex's advice. If I remember Win95 correctly, you can shut down, remove the card, re-boot, remove any drivers or software that might still be in your control panel, or start menu (via add/remove hardware and add/remove software, respectively), shut down, put the card back in, reboot, and re-install the drivers from the CD.

If that doesn't work, there are still other things we can try, but it gets uglier :(

No software with the keyboard, and nothing new installed.

I'm not sure what we did!

I don't have the win 95 on cd,only a quick restore disc.
I can't use it,I have too many irreplaceable things on the hard drive.

Thanks,
Pete

you should be able to download a Win95 driver from the website.

Just look for a win 95/soundblaster driver?
(Sorry,I really don't know what I'm doing here!)

i have very little knowledge of win 95 and even less of soundblaster and such but......just a word of caution.

I would back up everything ASAP, especially your music.

This didn't happen shortly after you installed that cdrw drive by any chance?

...not a bad idea - especially since we don't know the source of the problem.

When you're ready to download the driver, start here:
http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp

Select your Soundblaster type, model, and operating system. It'll point to you the right file to download. They should have installation instructions with the driver when you download it.

Just go slow, read everything, and follow the instructions - you should be fine.

Okay Pete, let's do the dirty work...
I guess it's pretty hard to explain, since I dumped Win95 for long, and take advantage of WinXP instead. But may be I can help. Now, Open your Controll panel, look into the Device Manager where you find that tree of attached hardware. Click on your sound card (it must be there with a conflict sign). Click properties, then set the source manualy. Here you can assign the card's conflict source (IRQ, DMA, I/O, whatever...) to some free one. Can you do that ? or they don't let you configure it yourself ? What's actually conflicting ? What do you get ? I'll be back latter...
;)

My wife kind of got it working.
There is an IRQ conflict between the game compatible device, and the ES1887 Plug and Play audio drive.
It won't let you change the address for the game compatible, but will for the ESS.
When we changed the ESS,it workes, but if we reboot the computer it changes it back again?

Thanks,
Pete

Most sound card's devided into two hardware section. Game compatible devices section (for Joystick thingy) and the Audio section. So they will appear as a two branch in the tree. BTW, do you still have the ES's driver CD ? Try to uninstall (remove) the Game compatible devices, or update the driver from your CD if you still have it. Does it help ? I have a strong feeling it's IRQ number 9, am I right ? ;) If it doesnt help, then try to move your card to any other empty PCI slot, and see what's going on...
;)

hey, while your messin' around with your 'puter Pete, take this opportunity to get the hell off of win95! win2000 will run much smoother for ya. just my opinion.

erichenryus just said what I'm thinking...:D and XP would even alot better...

Thanks very much guys,I really appreciate the help!

I don't have the cd,if my wife can't figure it out,I'll try moving the card.

James,how would I find out the IRQ#?

Thanks,
Pete

Simple way to find out if any IRQ being used is to see it in windows controll panels. System properties, Device Manager, look on your computer properties. Click View resource by type. ;) there's a tree of devices using any IRQ available. As I told you before, I'm using WinXP now, so I forget the exactly detailed what's on where on Win 95. Just figure it by my XP point of view. But I think you can find it not so hard. Many nowdays mothrboard comes with BIOS that lets you tweak & assign IRQ for each slot. This feature will make sure high priority devices doesnt share same IRQ with other devices...;)

Thanks James.
I think thats my problem,my ESS somehow got assigned to a port with a high priority.
I just don't get why when I reboot, the ESS moves back to the high priority port?
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Pete
