Pleads the 5th...
I'm trying to re-mix a song on Cakewalk 9. I have two lead guitar parts at the end of the song, each recorded in mono on separate tracks. I'm trying to pan one left and one right and it ain't happening. I've managed to get other MIDI tracks to behave, but the audio tracks aren't cooperating. So far I've tried to set the pan amount in Track View, manually insert and set a Pan Controller the Event list, insert and set the pan envelope in Audio View. I just cant figure it out. The adjustments don't seem to be affecting the playback for these tracks at all. And I think the soundcard it set up correctly for stereo playback, etc. Any Takers? Thanx, Tom.

BTW: Thanx alot Gidge, If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be doing this, and I'd stuck with that shitty mono-mix crapolla that you gave me advise on... ...Only kidding, I appreciate the comments Gidge, and can't wait to post the new, improved MP3 so you guys can rip it to shreds again. I'm actually making headway on the rest of the re-mix.

I know, it sounds F#^ked up, but that's what I believe is happening. Go Figure? But, then again, with me at the controls, anything can happen... ...Houston, we have a problem!

A long shot but......

You said that you had 2 lead guitars panned right/left....are they the same part copied and pasted on to another track or are they 2 different lead guitars? If they were copied and pasted and are in perfect time with each other, then they would still appear to be centered. Like I said it's a long shot but if that's the case try delaying one of them or EQing one a little differently to get the separation.

Other than that I have NO IDEA!

The two leads were recorded separately, so there are slight differences in the two tracks. Another strange thing with this is that in the Event View, the sample size for the two tracks are similar in size, but in Track View one has a file size of 44, and the other has a file size of 1. What's up with that? When soloed, you can tell that the tracks are in fact different, and both come through on playback, but panned dead center no matter what I do. The audio tracks have the name Record 7(take 1) and Record 8 (take 1). I'm trying to think of anything else that would be useful information. I listened to the song again with headphones and it's official - the MIDI tracks have been successfully panned (probably incorrectly panned, but panned none the less and noticabley in stereo), while the audio tracks are just sitting in the center, no matter what I do. Is it possibly something with the soundcard settings. It's presently a Soundblaster (soon to be a Delta 66) Where would I look in the settings to make sure that they're set correctly, because I may be overlooking something. The MIDI is sent directly into an external sound module from the computer, and directly from the module into my board. So the answer may very well lie in the soundcard configuration (I'm going straight out of that - stereo line out - into my board as well) If Homosapiens had evolved with just one ear I would't be having this problem, now would I?

PROBLEM SOLVED!

OK, so I had the soundcard set for mono playback. HOW STUPID IS THAT? I know I changed it to stereo before, but for some reason, there it was with the mono box checked. Hopefully it save the setup config this time. Thanx for all the help. Tom.
