So i just found a beautiful 1967-1970 made in japan heit deluxe guitar. It sounds amazing and strong, but the tuners are all pretty loose and a tuning peg is missing. This is the guitar

Hmm. I couldn't find a direct replacement, but grab a ruler and dig around here:

First, figure out what the size of the hole drilled for the shaft is, and then next figure out how much space you need from tuner to tuner. It's possible two of the "three on a plate" tuners, back to back, will fit, and if not you might be able to go with individual vintage style tuners - the Grovers might do it, though you might have to custom order a 6-in-line set.

EDIT - definitely measure before trying it, but this could work, too:

Or:

OR: http://www.warmoth.com/Gotoh-Vintage-Tuners-Set-of-6-Left-Chrome-P966C728.aspx ...which has a diagram which might be a lot of help when checking for retrofitability. :)

Thank you for your worthwhile and informative post! I dont own a ruler so i'm just going to make a guess! I read someone else replaced their heit tuners with the gotoh ones, so i think i'll try those. Im not sure what the difference between the left and right ones are though. Hope it works out because even without holding its tune, the feel and tone is special and amazing!

Visually, that looks like a left set to me, which I assume to mean "on the left side of the headstock, viewed from the front," but I'd get a second opinion.

I'd also REALLY suggest going out to your local convenience store and spending a buck or two on a metric ruler before dropping $40 on a set of tuners that you don't know for sure they'll fit. Better safe than sorry, you know?

Also, pics of the rest of the guitar?

You really need to know the post and ferrule dimensions before ordering replacements. You may end up with something completely wrong if you order tuners that just "kind of look the same."

Hehe, i just stole a tape measure :) I will take some pics of it after i clean it up. Its so nice, and its the best sound i've ever heard! it blows my dean and fake telelcaster away. One of the tuning pegs is missing, i guess the replacement tuners would come with the pegs too? Maybe i could just find some replacement pegs? Also, what do you guys think is the best thing to give this guitar some love? what would it like to be cleaned with?

hehe, yes, after i polish my beauty! Its not ready for the camera! I was listening to the kinks song 'all day and all of the night' and i thought to myself, "whoa, that sounds just like my guitar, but not as good!" hehe :) and it's going through a transistor amp and digitech pedal, i could just imagine it would howl like a ghost on a tube amp! The two pick ups look like huge world war 2 tanks! and the tremolo bar is like a huge hunk of steel. Unfortunately, its stuck and i cant seem to loosen the tremelo bar so i can move it. My friend says to spray it with WD40.

Rather than spraying with WD-40, I'd recommend that you find the spots where it is supposed to articulate and use a little penetrating oil.
