Man, I'm getting frustrated..

Before, when I downloaded a MIDI file from the internet, Cakewalk would automatically launch and play the MIDI file. That was great!

BUT NOW, somehow I screwed up the settings so that the MIDI files play on win amp or this other really dumb media player I have.

Can anyone tell me how to set my computer so that Cakewalk is the default player for opening MIDI files???? I would greatly appreciate any help.

It's simple to fix that. Go to the Start menu, select Help, and look up "associating file types with programs" in the Index...

It's not really your fault, some of those things like WinAmp don't even give you the courtesy of asking you whether you want it to become the default player or application for certain filetypes.

Thanks for the response AlChuck. I've been trying that and am still having problems. Window Media Player keeps opening up MIDI files.

In order to make cakewalk open MIDI files, the file type I should be editing in folder options is "MIDI sequence" right? And the actions should be "Open" and "Play", with play bolded as the default? Is this what you have? I'm not sure if I'm making it more complicated than it really is, but I just haven't figured out the easy fix for it yet.

AlChuck is right (as is often the case:) )
Right-click the (any) midi file, select 'open with' and browse to the Sonar-executable (or the program you want the midi-files to open in).
Make sure you check the 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'-box.
