Hello, and please be kind !

I'm looking for the best way to get my sound directly from my MESA amp and in to Logic Pro or GarageBand on my Mac.

I have a number of effects going in to the pre-amp of my Stiletto and ambient-pedals in my effects-loop, so ideally I would like to use my amp as the sound-source rather than undertake all of the modelling in the DAW. I'm looking at audio-interfaces at the moment which is difficult enough, although an Apogee Duet 2 seems the likely candidate; however I'm wondering whether my best bet would be to invest in a microphone or preferably, could I use the Slave - post power-amp/line-level - output into the Duet.

Any advice would be most gratefully appreciated. I read the numptie/newbie notes before posting this but I can't find anything that covers my question !

Many thanks.

Yes, you could use the line-level signal to a line input on an interface, but truly the best sound will be to mic the speaker.

The Apogee Duet is a stonking interface by all accounts but perhaps an overkill for one electric guitar?

I would think a Shure SM57 and a Steinberg UR22 or one of the Rolands, the bigger Focusrites, or, my personal favourite, the Native Instruments KA6 would give excellent results.

Others here will suggest other microphones and I would spend on those rather than an excellent but expensive dinky interface.

Dave.
