Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I didn't know where else to post it...

I need some opinions on a couple of studios that my band is thinking about recording at. I know it might be difficult without actually going to the place, but if you can listen to some of the samples and check out their pics and offer some advice, that would be awesome.

The place I am really interested in is crabwalkstudios.com. He works with a lot of local rock bands and has some great recordings. He is willing to track, mix twice, and master 3 songs for $450. I got a really good vibe from him on the phone, plus he wants to hear us live to get a better idea of our sound to keep in mind while recording/mixing.

Our guitarist likes perfechterproductions.com. We visited his place, and he has some decent gear and decent demos, but mostly does hip-hop (he called himself the white Dr. Dre...) with a few other styles thrown in. One of the major turn offs for me was the mattress foam in the iso booth and lack of acoustic treatment in the mixing room.

We are also looking at reverbnation.com/thedinsystemstudio and maybe facebook.com/RainbowTroutStudios. I also just called a guy at wiredevolutionstudio.com. If you have a few minutes to check out the links and tell me what you think, that would be awesome. Thanks guys!

BTW, we do instrumental rock similar to Foo Fighters, Incubus, Coldplay, etc. (but w/o vocals obviously...).

Gear doesn't matter as much as the end result. I don't care if the guy is using Behringer everything as long as the final result is good.

Anyhow, this might be the bands fault but I can't believe crabwalk would let the guitars be that out of tune (band "All Starts Here"). I mean it's painful how bad they are (listened to Watch and Sea). The production just didn't do it for me. However if he did whatever I heard when I went to his website then I would say he is a fair bet, especially at that price.

perfechter doesn't do it for me with his audio demos. Maybe they are old, I dunno. He seems better being the "white Dr. Dre" haha.

thedinsystemstudio.... you listened to the demos right?

RainbowTroutStudios. Well it would be nice to hear his work as he has some fantastic gear... but like I said, gear doesn't always= good end result.

wiredevolution. Looks good, sounds ok. The song that plays on the main page pumps in a real bad way.

Got to use your ears man, do you like the way thier mixes sound? It's also totally fine to ask bands that have worked with these places what they thought of the experience. Word of mouth goes a lot further than asking on a forum.

Thanks for that little review of each of the studios. I know it's difficult to say much just based on their website and demos, but what you said helps a lot. Hopefully a few others will chime in, too.

I guess you're going to have to do some exploring. I checked out all the demos and am on the same level as guitargodgt. Personally, I didn't like crabwalk, perfecther, or thedinsystemstudio. They sounded very plain. Nothing really spectacular. I didn't find any samples for rainbowtroutstudios and wiredevolution sounds decent. It may be a hit or miss with all of these places, something you may have to find out on your own.

If you're going to invest a good amount of money and see this band continuing music in the future, have you considered getting some used equipment and doing the work yourselves?

By the way, the reverbnation tracks are live jam songs from my old band Soul Creep...
