hey all,

so I'm looking to get a good 8 track set up I'm thinking about an otari 8 track 1/2" and I want to run pre's directly in bypassing the mixer or I'm looking for an 8 track console with good pre's one or the other. I'm also planning to eventually mix down in stereo to computer, so I'm thinking I'll need a good stereo a/d converter. I guess my first question is what sort of a mixer/console should I be looking for. I need something I can mix 8 tracks with good eq's and so on and I'm more interested in getting the pre's off the board.

hope to have some help.
thanks.

Check Craig's List locally for decent mixers such as the Tascam M-200 or 300 series.

Does your Otari run at +4 or -10 (balanced or unbalanced)? That will be an important question, as it will dictate the type of mixer you ought to get for your machine.

If you already have a computer, check out the Delta 44 sound card. It has decent A/D converters for the money.

Other analog users on this forum may suggest using a standalone CD recorder. If you can afford this option, that might work best for you. Just be careful, because I tried this route once and ended up with two non-working units from eBay.
