HELP! connecting headphones into audiophile 2496 and dmp3 setup

Hi I'm a newbie and new to this forum. I have an Audiophile 2496 soundcard with a pair of studio monitors connected to it's analog outputs. In the analog inputs I plan to plug in a DMP3 preamp. My question is, how do I get headphones into all of this(so i can hear what i've just played while recording a new track over it). Also, once I do somehow get these headphones plugged in, do I have to do anything special so that I can actually hear what I'm playing as I'm recording?
The only solution that I can think of(which is less than ideal) would be to just plug the headphones into the analog outs of the soundcard while recording, then plug back in the monitors while mixing.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

p.s. I don't want to have to buy a mixer, so any ideas that doesn't involve buying a mixer would be great.

This is the reason I didn't get a 2496.

Most likely because you ruled out the one solution most applicable. You need a mixer or other external device to run your analog outputs too, that can then feed your monitors and has a headphone jack. If you have a boom box or A/V receiver you could use that in the interim; I don't think you'll be able to plug your headphones into the card analog outputs--you need an amp of some sort driving the headphones. A relatively inexpensive option might be the Samson C-control monitor system.
