Hey, everyone... okay, my question(s) are very to the point.
To save a bunch of babble, I'll ask the question(s), and then explain the reasoning.

1.) Do all modern laptops, containing Vista, come already equipped with a soundcard capable of simultaneous playback and record?

2.) If not, is the Audigy SE good enough just for basic recording?

3.) What is the absolute cheapest, basic laptop that I can get for minor recording projects? BestBuy has some in the $600 price range.

Now, let me explain the set up, which you may need to know in order to answer the above questions.

The band records the tracks.

I use the 2 track stereo master of those tracks to lay down my vocals with.

The present route is this...

I use Magix Audio Studio.

Don't laugh yet.

The reason I use Magix, my computer is an old dinosaur, and it doesn't tax the memory at all, runs very smoothly.

Now, though I record on Magix, I use Steinberg plugins that I have configured for use on Magix. Make sense?

So, see, I'm not after a great big to-do.
Recording onto one track, playing back one track... total of 2 tracks, and using about 3 plug ins.

If your budget were around $600, and you were just doing this simple setup I'm talking about, what laptop would do the job?

Thanks.

I would imagine there's quite a few, but if you're planning on doing recording then scrap the vista, it's a resource hog, compared to XP.

You're about the 10th person saying that Vista is gonna suck, be it for recording or just general use.
Hmmm. Maybe the best best is to find a rebuilt laptop with XP or something.
I'm on 2000 right now, on a basic PC.
Thanks for your input.
