Hello everyone. I just added a Delta 44 soundcard to my custom built PC. My computer already has a SoundBlaster Live soundcard in it. My computer has a "boxed" Intel Pentium III 933MHZ processor, 256 MB 133 RAM, Asus P3V4X motherboard, 3dfx Voodoo 5 video card, one 40GB Maxtor 7200 Ultra DMA 66 hard drive, network card for an external cable modem, HP CD-ROM Burner, Windows 98. All hardware/software in the computer is using the latest manufacturers drivers/patches/upgrades. The SoundBlaster Live card always works perfectly with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.03. However the Delta 44 card is not working properly when recording in Cakewalk. Specifically, if I record a track by itself it works just fine. However, I have one song where I've imported a WAV file as a track and saved it. It then plays fine. However, when I attempt to record an additional track while playing that WAV file track, the newly recorded track usually sounds like it is over saturated with a distorted/popping sound. There have been a couple of random occasions where it recorded the second track fine. But usually the second track sounds terrible. I have also gotten some intermittent dropouts when I start recording. Here is what I've done so far, with no success: Checked the IRQ of the Delta 44 soundcard. It is on its own IRQ only with "IRQ Holder For PCI Steering". Hit ALT-CTRL-DEL and closed everything except Explorer and Systray. Checked hard drive setting to insure DMA box is checked. Run video card at 256 colors with no screen saver. Turned off auto CD recognition. So far nothing has solved the problem. Again, this has never been a problem with the SoundBlaster card. Thanks in advance for your help and opinions.

Thanks for your reply and assistance. I was wondering about something like a feedback loop but on the distorted track there is no other sound on it except the solo recorded instrument (a guitar). My Windows Multimedia is set as: WaveOut ½ Delta 44 for the Preferred playback device and PCM In ¾ Delta 44 as the Preferred-recording device. My Delta control panel Patchbay router Tab is set Hardware Out ½ - Waveout ½ checked and Hardware Out ¾ - Waveout ¾ checked. I am monitoring all tracks by using the Delta 1 and 2 OUTS from the breakout box. The Delta 1 & 2 Outs run to a mixer and the mixer runs to my monitor speakers. For input I'm using an ART preamp and running it directly into the Delta INS 3 not through the mixer. In Cakewalk, all Ports are set as WaveOut ½ Delta 44 for playback and Left PCM IN ¾ Delta 44 for recording. Again, thanks very much for your assistance and ideas!

I think my problem has been solved!!! I called M-Audio tech support yesterday. Evidently there have been reported problems with their latest software drivers version 4.1.22.29. They told me that there had been others who had also reported similar problems with these 4.1.22.29 drivers. They recommended I download and install their 4.1.22.27 drivers instead. So far it has solved my problem!!! Multiple recordings without distortion. It's also interesting to note that their 4.1.22.29 drivers are no longer available for download from their site.
