I got a new Behringer UB802 as a mixer/pre-amp for my recording setup. So I need some help with how to set it up properly!

So I have a Tascam MF-P01 4 track recorder, a Behringer UB802 mixer and a Shure SM57 microphone.

I NEED TO KNOW:
What does a mixer actually do in terms of recording via a microphone into a 4 track, and why are they needed?
What leads, cables, and/or other accessories do I need to get decent sound from my amp -> mic -> mixer -> recorder?
Anything else I should know?

THANKS!!!

The mixer has a pre-amp in tht will boost the mic signal basically. The tascam has one too, but it's not as good as the berry.. and the mixer also allows you to control the EQ of the input.

Basically, the leads you need are the ones that fit... so the mic goes into the mic input, and the line outputs on the mixer go into the 4-track.

BTW, have fun with the 4-track.. (small world huh...)
