Okay guys. Please spare me the speech about spending more money! I used to have a fully digital studio with Lexicon effects...and I will again soon. However, in the mean time, I just bought a Fostex 4 tracker to lay down some solid demo ideas until the studio is back in action (it'll be a few months). I'd like to get an effects unit that will translate to my studio later, but I just don't have the funds right now (buying a house). So going CHEAP just for "kickin' around FX", which one? I can get either one for $50 flat.

The Alesis Nonoverb, or the Alesis Midiverb II? I've looked all over Ebay, and it's down to these 2. Couldn't find an affordable Alesis Wedge or Quadraverb. Thanks gang!

I think that sound quality wise, they will be the same. I think form factor will be the biggest difference.

The Nano verb is 1/3rd rack space so it is cool for dragging around in a gig bag, but a pain to rack. It has human readable presets such as small room, inverse, gate. etc.

The Midi verb (if I remember right) has a 2 digit LED to tell you which patch you are on. Is rack mountable (if you need that) May have a few more presets, and has midi alterable functions if you use midi.

I have had a few Nano verbs in my time. They nice for live stuff nad OK for recording until you get your big rig rolling again.

My opinion obviously.

Tom

I'd say go for the Nanoverb. The small size is easy to deal with, and I think they sound a bit better than the Midiverbs. Also, they are very easy to dial in sounds on. Not a lot of control, but quick and easy.

Just naNO........

I wouldn't go for either one.......... find some flavour of used Lexicon - the LXP-5 or LXP-15 for example.........

Much better quality than anything Alesis ever put out.....

Are they selling that cheap though? I know the LXP-15 goes for a lot more than $50. I'd be kind of suprised if the LXP-1 or LXP-5 went that cheap either.

True, but it would be worth the extra investment in cost....

No, the Lexicon units aren't anywhere near that cheap. Bear is suggesting that I should spend more money, which he's right.....if only I were doing some real recording. Not crappy cassette demos until I get my rig back up and running. :)
