Hi,
I am building a home studio (on a budget) and am currently buying monitors. I have seen the Behringer 1C and have read some good reviews. Basically a) are they a good buy? b) are they powered? and c) how do i connect them to my lap top, will i need an amp? which leads are involved?
Any help is much appreciated.

Do you have an audio interface? You'll need one - it converts the audio signal to a digital one. Usually the monitors plug into the interface. The Behr are 'passive' - that means they are unpowered. You want to get 'active' monitors, ones with built-in amps. Here's Sweetwater's monitor choices.

Thank you

Yes i do i have an edirol 25 and just hasd a look to see the out! Thank you.
Cheers for the info and the link too, much appreciated!

The M-Audio BX 5a is an active monitor, easy to get used to, because of their mostly uncolored response, and affordable at $300. Some folks don't care for Behringer, but I've had very good luck with the many pieces I have, the prices are hard to beat.

You should look into an interface, as mentioned above, or at least a soundcard. M-Audio has some pretty good offerings there too, but there are a lot of them, just do your homework, and ask questions.

Most connections for monitors are 1/4 inch phone (guitar) plug, and high quality cables are needed.

I bought a set of KRK RP5's a few years ago, and haven't really had to upgrade them since (although they do have significant drawbacks, being $300 speakers).
