ok, so i've been playing music forever and a day, BUT...i know nothing about recording myself. so, i was wondering if anyone can give me advice on what to buy, what not to buy, how to do it, and what not to do. i want to record my accoustic guitar with me singing and i have a computer. i also want to put my songs on CD and i have a burner. well, if you can help or give me direction on what to do i'd appreciate it. thanks

Welcome! I'll give it a shot...

You need a multi tracking sound card. Look into the Delta series. Some have preamp breakout boxes, some don't. I recommend buying a good two channel preamp to hook up to card to get started. Then, I recommend a good condenser mic. A large diapram for vocals and a small for the acoustic.

That'll get you going. You'll probably get 100 different opinions here. You've got a lot of homework to do, grasshopper. :D

You may want to post this question in the Newbies forum as well...

I use a tascam us428, it' usb and you don't need a soundcard. Although it works well with one. It's got 4 mic/line/guitar ins, digital in/out, 2midi in/out, and a nice control surface. If you don't need anymore than 4 inputs, I would recommend checking it out.
Add 1 or 2 mics and as many cables and your good to go. Some sort of monitors would be helpful. And Cubase sx is very easy to record with. How much money do you have to start up with?
