This one had its roots in that Volkswagen commercial where, in typical German Clockwork fashion the whole world suddenly ran in Lock Step with the windshield wipers on this Jetta.

hey dr,

I came into my house at 12:53 a.m. pissed, and hammered..... I went on the computer and saw there was a new drstrawl tune... I listened to it many times in a row...... I love it........ it was warped...and given the mood I'm in right now, it was fitting....
I wish it was longer....... I am totally hammered right now and I'm listening to your tune........ It is enhancing my mood......which is not a good one......it is one of rage and anger......and disgust.....maybe this isn't right to be typing, but I'm digggin' it...... I feel like punching something right now, and your tune is encouraging my rage......I'm sureI'll regret typing this tomorrow, but hey, your tunes had an effect, and that is a lot more than I can say about a lot of other things right now.... you put this tune up at just the right time...sorry if it is not the mood you had when you recorded it, but so what...............It got me....so even if it wasnt your purpose, it did..

peace! I love it!

Cool midi stuff! Sounds like alot of work. Good Job.
You have some cool looking cats, too.

Thanks- the mood was a happy one on this end, but really smirking at a much darker angle of the "Lock-Step" mentality.

I'm glad it worked in your context!!

And to JMarcomb:

Thanks, Bro. I beg to differ on the "alot of work" angle. Some MIDI artists really put obscene amounts of time and effort into each of their creations and I try to support that philosophy with my CD purchases. The greatest amount of work thrown into this was the time spent aligning the vocal with the MIDI track. I came nowhere close; orders of magnitude distant from the level of detail that can be inserted into a MIDI based creation. I almost don't wanna go there until I feel qualified to walk the walk. That involves the ability to play an instrument that is captured via. MIDI as well as the skilz post-production.

Anybody got $1500 so'z I can get the Axon Neural Net Guitar to MIDI converter and a Roland GK-2A right now?

Jeez, doc, I took off the headphones to answer the goddamn phone...:D :D

ROTFLMAO!

Clean mix! (Timing wasn't bad, either  )

hey dr, sorry for the ramblings last night on your thread. I rarely drink, and last night I caught your tune at the right (wrong?) time..

That being said, my thoughts on the tune are the same.... Very cool and unique!

toooooooooo short is my only complaint...

Hey Doc, interesting song - I like it. Felt like there was a battle for my brain going on between Willie Wonka and Alex of A Clockwork Orange. I'm not sure who wound up with it... but it feels like Alex.

It sounds brilliant, like the best party you've
ever attended :)

Keep up the great work!

I dig it. Definitely some of the more creative stuff around here. I really like the way the different parts weave in and out and everything comes together around :43 with the telephone ring.

Treeline: When I first started playing around with that ring patch with this tune, my elder cat kept looking over at me as if to say, "Well, fuckhead are you gonna answer it or what?"
I worked on getting the overdub as clean as possible so I appreciate that comment.

B.SABBATH: no apologies necessary!

Vurt: Bloody Droogie! :)

maxc: thanks, but it fell a bit short of that :)

gnarled: I love the swirling Gamelan tones that resolve together with that telephone ring patch on the Canvas. Thanks for noticing the confluence.

dtb: Be Here Now!

Extreme Exotica!!! Doc, U are truly a Midi-Master!!! Your chordal
phrasing with unorthodox root note scale progression is most
unique!! Even the way you seem to handle the double harmonic
interplay between chords is off the hook!!! I felt the similarity at first of the VW comml, but than you went to an entirely different
melodic level far away and better than the comml!!!
Mannn,you got madd skillz!
Plus the recording was absolutely clean!!! Superb!

I hate you doc!!:D Wish I can get me sh@t to sound as smooth as that!!

Uh... where is it? DId you take it down?

I just followed the link to check it out and there's no song there that I can see...

I d/l this one last nite. I couldn't for the life of me remember what VW commercial that was, but then it clicked in.

The phone does an interesting job of making/breaking that section, becomes a section, more countable if you know what I mean.

Cool.

Here's the expanded version....

jet-rocker- thanks for checking it out!

Mr. QQ: thanks for your moral support...

Now howz about coming across with some of that Q-music.
I still have Q-meleon loaded on my HD at work and play it regularly. I ain't the only one feeling deprived. So ante up!

"Off the Hook" ?? Man- you've been hanging with that DJ character too much!!! I like that comedy routine though; thanks.

Emeric: thanks- check out the new one if you can. I think the guitar brought out the Gamelan feel of the whole piece. My only complaint was the fret buzz and scraping sounds- I would redo the take where this really got out of hand to get that better but it was an awesome spontaneous track relative to MY capabilities, so it stays for the moment. :)

AlChuck- I was gonna upload the new mix to Nowhereradio but they're having some technical difficulties, so I uploaded it to:

http://home.adelphia.net/~drstawl/music.htm

Tune is: "Hello"

This is the version I mixed with several (5) stereo tracks of overdubbed acoustic guitar, pair of rodents into an A&H 16:2 board into GINA.

dobro likes it too

tick tock tick tock tick tock... :D :)

gee, that's a nice tune

what would it sound like if the wolkvagon slammed into a bridge pillar? Would the tempo change? Most importantly, what color would the car be? Have you ever done a cover of "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats?

oh..the Roland GR-33 might be a cheaper solution that might work for you, btw....and transpose those bass lines down an octave so you can play them up an octave for tighter tracking.
