hey i just signed up, nice lookin forum u guys got here

im just getting into beat production... ive made a few already with fruity loops and ive sampled voices and made some beats that were decent...

i want to know wut the best computer program is to use for making hip/hop beats in general.. i find that fruity loops works well but the beats still sound too "midi".. i know how to sample snares and kicks from songs i like and i can get better sounding beats that way

so wut do u guys prefer? ive heard something about Pro Tools? im not familiar with this program, is it good, easy to use?

i do have knowledge in fruity loops so im not looking for an extremely easy progam, i just wanna get the best sounding

my laptop is very good and thats wut i will be doin this work on

p4 3.0 ghz
512 mb ddr ram
60 gb hdd
all the good shit in it lol...

There is NO "best"

When it comes to computer programs there is no "best". It all depends on what you like to use an what u make the hottest shit with. Me personallly i used fruity loops with a gang of samples. I've heard real nice beats made with fruity an even with magix studio (lower budget software). So it really comes down to what you like to use the most. Take some time to fully learn fruity because i've used it for the past year an i learn something new everything i mess with it. Some other good one's I would recommend would be Acid Pro 4.0, Reason 2.5, Cubase SX but like i said it all comes down to creativity an what you feel most comfortable using. BTW i know alot of people talk shit about fruity or what not an if this is one of the reasons u don't want to use it sit back an look at some of the "big name" producers who have had success with it. I know 9th wonder used or uses it an there are others but i just can't remember all of them...

Peace,

hey thx for responding.. didnt expect one this informative...

yah i will continue to use fruity loops then.. i also use cool edit pro to do someowork with my beats.. thx for the info kevlar

yeah

i agree fruity can be just as good as any other program but i find when i make meats with it they come out to sythy like video game music or something. Also post you should post your beats i would like to hear them.

will do... im getting better at it... less midi like lol.. but another question for u guys, have you ever tried AV music morpher gold edition? i find this to be a cool little program, its only good for a few things, but the problem is it will only let u save ur work 10 times in the demo, and i cant seem to find it anywhere in stores... bummer

Sampling snares and kicks

Hi Jesus Piece

Refering to ur quote:" know how to sample snares and kicks from songs i like and i can get better sounding beats that way"

How do u sample snares and kicks from songs?Do u also look for clean breaks in the song to do this? Also, would like to hear some of ur songs or beats if possible.Hit me back some time.Or via email at bricktop@webmail.co.za

Keep it tight.

Yo wazuup, i use fruity loops to, can u please post some of your beats cuz i like to how my beatz compare with other people who use fruity loops. cuz u know all i have to compare with is the radio.

i used fruity loops when i first got started for a long time as well. its a great program to learn the basics of making beats on a computer, but i think you'll find, as i did, that after a while theres only so much you can do with fruity loops and it just didnt give me much satisfaction knowing that millions of people out there could be making the exact same beat as me or that a six-year old could be as good as me at the program. but, on the other hand, 9th wonder, who produces beats for lots of big rappers including Jay-Z("Threats" off the Black Album) admitted to using fruity loops, so i guess its not that bad.

reason far and away blows away any other program in my mind. all you need is a good sound card and a keyboard to make tight, beautiful instrumentals for any type of music, but especially hip-hop. ive only had the program a couple weeks, but its really blown me away the possibilities. i hope this helps you out.

im sorry i didnt see that someone already said on this forum that 9th wonder used fruity loops...i guess i just wanted to be the first person to say it because he is from north carolina too.

also, dont get the wrong impression, you dont NEED a keyboard or a different sound card to use reason, it just gives you that many more possibilities. all you really need is a lot of free memory!

Man I am a beast on fruityloops and if I didn't have a bad experience on this board with some anus trying to stealmy work I would post some production up here to inspire you dog! It's never a matter of what you have...its where you want to go and what you wanna do...that the beauty of human ingenuity and resourcefulness
