Well basically, im a complete noob, i dont know anything about setting up a recording studio... I have a microkorg, and a computer ...and basically, i want to record what i play on my synth, onto my computer...i dont think its midi im lookin for though cause wouldnt that jsut give me the keys played and not the actual sounds?..though i do need a good midi cable too...basically im just lookin for a simple recording setup but im illetirate on the basics, cards, interfaces, i have no idea??? any help would be appreciated with prompt ass kissings and my blessing. I also wanted to hook up a cheap mixer to all of this i guess run the synth through the mixer through the computer or something but i guess i need input cables or something like that???? baaah help

Well. First I would think of what are ou plan on doing in the future. If you only going to record your physical sync (microkorg), you will only need a two channel (stereo) analog to digital converter. A/D converter is more or less a soundcard. Your probably going to want to buy a converter on the lines of M-Audio which is decent for the money. Now they make two channel converters in the 1000-2000 dollar range and in betweeen for hi end quality. It sounds like M-Audio would be a likely choice for you starting out.

Second you will need software to record. A lot of times M-audio and other will bundle software with the hardware. And it is a real cheap way to go.

Um, I believe you mean in the $100-$200 range . You could get a truly excellent soundcard for $2k. FWIW,

Not to be picky, but a soundcard is NOT the same as A/D conversion.They are seperate entities. While most soundcards have A/D conversion, not all of them do (some provide only a digital interface, for example). However, A/D convertors by themselves cannot get data into your DAW. They are a component of an audio interface.

For what you want to do, you want a DAW audio interface (aka a soundcard) that provides 2 analog channels. (or a stereo channel). It should also have a MIDI port so that you could record via midi.
