Hello all. I was wondering if someone can be my Cubase buddy! This is the deal I have
cubase 3.7 windows 98 second edition
pentium 111 processor
I am running a 13.5 gig and a 20.5 gig harddrive
currently 128 ram gonna move up soon to 256 or more
i have a gadget labs wavepro 8/24
driver for wavepro wpnt109(it says that is the best for my wave)
intel(reman)500mhz p111(and motherboard)
16mb agp graphics card
I have optimized my computer to the best that i know how, from reading on the cubase site, and other sites like this one. I got got the wave on it's own IRQ, Got almost everything turned off in my computer. It is running nice. I have no problems recording, but playback i do get pops and clicks and a little studder, comes in goes from min to min. I have gotten good results moving my asio configuration to the asio multimedia instead of the 8/24 asio but i get a delay when i click on anything in the cubase program.(meaning, when i hit play it takes about a a sec in half before it starts to play, so so..... Oh yeah and i tend to get better performance when i use 48.000 instead of 44.100. and set my memory per channel very high, like 900's. I would apreciate any and all suggestions yall guys have. Thanks Johnny Chandler

another buffer/voice problem... damn i've solved too many of these...
hehe.. it's actually called pentium III... or IV would be 15... which it isn't.. it's 4... naw... ARRRGGHHHHH
go to options - sound setup - system, and go to the asio configuration.. clicks and pops usually means too low a buffer.. go make the number in the spot where it says "buffer" a bit higher...
And goddamn, change your device in the audio system menu to directX.. it'll set your latency (delay) back tenfold...
if this doesn't work get a better soundcard.. if it does work, give me a burger cause i've got hangovers...

HEY CHRIS

HEY MAN, well i did what you suggested. But it says there is no directx availible, it caused my system to freeze up the first time i tried. I did change the buffer higher. Any more suggestions, it seams to run fine now, but time will tell. hell if your lucky i'll send you a burger man. thanks johnny chandler

I wouldn't especially say that you have a big problem because cubase doesn't "start" playing in the same instant you press play...one other suggestion--look into the directX mystery and let us know what you find......

When I say there is a delay from when i hit play, this goes for any realtime feature in cubase. for example, when i scrub a track, so therfore it makes the program useless to me. So i would say it is important. The Direct X mystery, well there is no direct driver in my computer(or this is what cubase tells me) .This is really the only place i know where to ask. Does anyone know why my direct X may be unavailible?

What vesion of Direct X have you got??

Also go to Program files/Direct X and check all your setting make sure Acceleration and stuff is enabled and that your sound card shows up on the device list.

Hey there, well I have no direct X in my system. COUld this be my problem? How can Obtaain direct x? thanks man

Well I found this out. 3.7 uses directx verson 6 and windows has 8, could this be a conflict?

...your directX ver. 8 has a "DxDiag" utility...find it on your computer, open it, and clk on the Sound tab...this utility will tell you about any drivers that are not ms certified...I'm not sure if it can detect a conflict with "software"...dig into it and see what you can find...it "seems" to me that if your CuBase ver. 3.7 likes directX 6, it shouldn't have a problem with directX 8...also, directX ver 8.1 is now available...I downloaded it yesterday and everything is working fine...

Hey thanks man. I will check into it! Yeah i heard 8.1 is very good. I willlet you know what i find out!! Johnny
