Hey all,
New to the forums. I have had a Korg D16 for some time now, but I have mostly used it as a mixer to monitor my drumset while playing and practicing.
Well, I just ordered a stero matched pair of MXL 603's and a M-Audio DMP3 Preamp. I also have a Shure SM57 on the way as well as a Beta 52.
I am really getting into wanting to record myself playing with loops etc. that I have created, so I guess my home studio has started hehe!
I hope I don't run into problems with the setup I will have, as I am pretty new to the whole recording process, and I have just learnt about preamps and phantom power etc.
I just have to get mic stands and cables at the moment, and that leads me to my question.
I have heard from some that the musicians friend $3 dollar cables will be fine, while others say step it up a little and "you get what you pay for"
So, I was wondering what would be the best? I am pretty set back on the budget already with the mics I am getting and the DMP3 so I don't want to go over the top with cables and stands. What would you suggest?
I actually just thought of another question I had too. I have been reading alot about preamps being mainly for the dynamic mics like the sm57 and beta 52 I will be getting. Will I eventually need to get another DMP3 for those mics to get some good quality recordings?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated,
Thanks!
