Hello,

I am in a band named Strange Intentions and we are beginning to write many songs. I have been looking at recorders. I have a Tacam Porta02mkll 4-Track, but it is too limted. I would like to get a 8 or 16 track with a built in CD-R. My two choices are the Fostex VF-160 and the Roland CD-X1 DiscLab. What are the pros and cons? What would you recomend? Your replies would be very helpful.

Do you wanna record hit records with the recorder? record practise? demos? what? How complex is your music?

Get at least 16 tracks. If you go for 8 it will be fun for a couple of weeks and then you'll start to get very frustrated. I learnt this the hard way, I started with a Yamaha MD8

Yo Intentions of Strangeness:

Mark of De 102 is right on. I also use the MD8 and there are limits to the box; however, it is a good box as it's easy to run for the most part.

But, if you are in to doing lots of stuff with your band, then 16 tracks would be a good choice; you don't want to bounce tracks because you lose control of tweaking individual cuts.

I am now learning how to use my Yam 2816 which is a new box from Yam. The 4416 is their first one and the 2816 has stuff in it not on the older 4416's.

You have many choices of 16 trackers. You and whoever has the cash have to shop and evaluate and audition and read the stuff on this site.

Keep spending to support the economy and keep that cash going into my SS account.

I agree with Green Hornet.I started with an md4s and then a MD8.I now have a Roland 1880 since I bought it a year ago there have been very many new boxes put out.I think the Yam 2816 is well worth a good look.
