I picked up one just a wee bit cheaper as a scratch & dent to give as a present. Haven't heard it yet, but it is a VERY substantial microphone. Weighs a tone, and is beautifully finished. In fact, I haven't been able to find a blemish on it. As best as I can tell, it was the box that was scratched.

I've been wanting to try a heil mic for a while now, so I jumped on this. I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried recording with it.

I got mine today -- it's purdy! Not sure when I'll be able to try it out. I'll probably want to get a new stand for it (all I have are boom stands) for effect.

The boom should thread off so you have a strait stand.

You can never have too many stands though. Report back when you use it for something.

Got a rockin' bar gig tonight, so I'm going to gift mine to my Harp playin' buddy early. I'll let you know how it performes.

Durrrrrrr... double post

Gave the Heil to my Harp Playin' Buddy on Friday, and he gave it a real workout at the gig. Here's some feedback:

1) This mic looks really cool. Chicks dig it (or at least fat drunk ones... there were LOTS of them at this gig ).

2) Lots of output for a dynamic. Good clean high end for the genre, too. Worked really well for acoustic harmonica.

3) Low Mids were not particularly strong for vocals (he's a barritone), but a bit of EQ filled things out nicely. No particular trouble with plosives, and this guy, while a very talented vocalist, tends to pop a fair bit.

Overall... quite the success, both as a present and as a stage mic. :)

It is high output, with some high end boost, maybe - this is just from me talking into it. Nice sound.

I did a snare track yesterday and just for a hoot, tried it out -- too much ringing - must be all that metal :D -- I'm sure it's not specified for snare :)

I guess never use a metal mic with a metal snare ;-)

heh heh

interesting though - the element in that mic is great for snare when in the handheld body (20 or 22). so I guess the big rca-type body isn't a good fit (literally and acoustically) for snare eh? too bad. wouldn't want to hit it anyway, that would be tragic.

I had some more fun with it, and I keep it on a stand all the time because it looks so cool. It must have like zero internal damping -- when it's plugged in and attached to a round base stand, and you walk by, it's like a giant is stomping his feet :D -- probably needs some sort of in-stalk shock absorption.

I recorded some vocal stuff (not enough to meaningfully post, yet, sorry) -- I thought it sounded good!
