hehe I think I found a mobo (hopefully)....

Well I think I found a mobo. I sent an email to Midiman regarding compatible mobo's and chipsets for the Audiophile and they gave a list of ones that work the best. One of these was the Asus A7A with an AMD/Athlon chipset. After looking at Asus website and pricewatch I figured I'd get the Asus A7A266. It doesn't appear like it's got on board audio although it does say it's optional. The thing that amazed me the most was the amount of memory this thing can hold and also the amount of USB ports...whew! :D Anyways, assure me here that I made a good choice or if I should reconsider since I am new to this. Thanks.
 
If it's rec'd by Midiman you are probably okay. Avoid any onboard sound or video cards. Make sure you have an AGP port (I'd be surprised if it didnt).
 
now a question about memory....

Yes it's got AGP :) That and 5 PCI's, man, and all I plan to have PCI wise is a soundcard...maybe a modem or ethernet card within time though. But I got a quick question regarding memory on it. The mobo says it has 2 dimms (up to 2GB) of DDR SDRAM and 3 dimms (up to 3GB) of PCI133 SDRAM. Will it make a difference which one I use? If have one stick of DDR and one stick of PCI133 will they work independently or together? And of course the next obvious questions: Which type is recommended? And for my tastes, which one is cheaper? :D Now if there isn't much difference in price I'll go with the more expensive assuming it's better.
 
You should, technically, get better performance with DDR. Since the price difference is $12 between SDRAM and DDR (based on 256MB), you may as well go DDR.

As for running SDRAM and DDR at the same time - nope. Pick one or the other.
