does anyone have any idea of what is actually used to get those 2 second lasting bass lowdowns, such as the ones featured in The Used songs and in Hidden in plain view songs too.

holy shit giraffe, you are my new bestfriend .. yeah i tried it and it's exactly what i needed, thanx man.

for future readers of this post .. generate a low frequency tone and smoothly fade it in and out. blah.

my fav old school trick

a: run a tone generator on it's own track
b: put a gate on that track
c: key the input of the gate to a kik (actually, to anything you'd like)
presto.... everytime the kick hits, the gate opens and your kik soundes huge.

use the gate to set how long the tone stays on and how fast it fades out.

If a track is already recorded, how can you have the gated tone follow the kick? I know I can buy nice programs to do that, but does anyone know of a free version (not pirated, just free)? I just want to use it as an effect in one song.

you need a gate with a key input....... what are you recording in??
(the generic protools gate has a key input, i'm not very familiar with other programs)
