PoeticIntensity (Jason) was kind enough to put some live drums down for this track. He also mixed this track in his studio. I think it sounds great! Please have a listen and let me know what you think. :):D:):D

New Mix:

Song sounds good. I can't tell if the highs need to be pushed up a little or it's my speakers.

Thanks dodgeaspen! I'll listen on Mike's krk monitors; it sounds pretty good on headphones.

I think it sounds great too. I agree about bringing the highs up in general, around 4 - 6k. I think the vocals could use a little more bottom end, too.

Good songwriting, good performance makes this a great rocker.

The drums lack air and snap. The performance is good, but they sound dark and kind of lifeless. It's mainly in the kick and snare. Toms sound pretty good. The rest of the instrumentation sounds good.

Thanks Chili and Greg...

Jason has some serious drumming skills doesn't he?

Listening on WMP, if you up the highs just a touch everything brightens up (including the drums). But you only need a slight bump. Could very well be the MP3 - Mike's been looking into the conversion affect lately using pink noise tests. It looks like conversion will affect the overall sound - for example boosting the low end and cutting the highs. I received a .wav of the drums from Jason which I'm going to work on - should be a good learning experience.

Appreciate the listen and the comments!

Thanks for the kudos, ido1957.

I actually agree with Greg L, and the rest about the highs in general. They need to be pumped up, and the snare definitely could use a lot of work to get it sitting in the mix better. It needs to pop much more than it does. The bass is another story entirely. My room makes it quite difficult to capture the bass I know my kick produces. I need a better bass mic. Ah well... All in time. Anyway...

I actually produced that mp3 without tweaking the drums at all. I have a basic template that I use to record drums with, and more often than not, the template needs tweaking based on the mix, so - just know that the mix you all are listening to is using a "catch-all" drum template.

I'm interested to hear what ido1957 comes up with after playing with them a bit. I think getting a good drum sound is both the hardest and the most rewarding part of mixing in general.

good song reminds me of something like the Smithereens a bit with more of a 70's style sound!

Good job on this one Gerry, and everyone else involved-it's a great rockin' tune. It does have a 70's sound but with a much fuller sound, everything is solid already and like everyone has said, a few tweeks in the mix and it's done.

PoeticIntensity (Jason) did another remix based on the comments, here is his latest mix which accompanied the link:

I took off the snare reverb completely, raised the higher HZ of the snare and compressed it a bit to make it "pop", and cleaned up the kick a lot. The bass frequencies are a lot cleaner, but they might be a bit too hot. You'll have to let me know what you think.

Holy Cow:eek:!

This sounds so much...uh...awesomer than it did the first time around (I've only heard this pre-Poetic drums). So much more energy. It just rocks a lot harder. Good job all around. I'm on a laptop, but I certainly don't hear any glaring mix issues at all. Great job on this collaboration:D.
