I have a Sennheiser headset that terminates in two TRS 3.5mm jack plugs. In conjunction with a USB dongle it works admirably for Skyping my son in France.
I am looking for a similar headset for a third party that has the mic output on XLR3 so that is can pug into a standard interface or mixer. The headphones can be TRS big or small.

I am having no luck! There ARE headsets with XRs but they are all 'combo' jobs with a 4 or 5 pin plug.

If the kit was for me I would get one of those and make an adapter but I don't think the person I am trying help is the "DIY" sort!

Dave.

Would a similar headset as your's in conjunction with a 3.5 TRS Female to XLR Male adapter work?

It is certainly a possibility mate. I am going to cobble something together from my "precious old parts bin" AKA "junk box!" AFAICT those adapters do not contain a transformer so I shall try that route first. The person I am trying to help is in Australia so posting out anything I might make is going to be expensive and take a while to arrive (NOT doing airmail!)

Right! Time to find a 3.5mm socket and fire up the old solder iron.

The millennium Falcon rides again! ?

The TRS is wired ring and tip in parallel and sleeve so I wired a 6.35mm jack pins 2 and 3 to that and plugged the mic into my MOTU M4. BIG hum! and almost no signal. I might try a transformer but hold out little hope as there is 1.5mtr of unscreened, unbalanced cable involved. I might risk a few quid on an adapter.

Plenty available from Canford in the UK - commentators headsets where an ordinary XLR is supplied on a special version with ¼" for the headset audio. However, if the price of airmail scares you - probably best to carry on with the junk box.

Kinell! Well I am doing this for a lady in Oz and she has a hiss problem (she thinks) with a SM7BdB and is looking at other mics of comparable cost so those headsets shouldn't scare her. Problem might be "the visuals"? I doubt she will want to be seen with the big cans! The reason we are talking headsets is because she cannot have anything obscuring her mouth (cos of some software or sommat)

What about a lapel mic? Where I work we have several of the ones in the attached photo.
