LOUD headphones

When i track drums, and play along with a click, I can never hear the click...Would getting any pair of good ones solve this?

I use a pair of Sony MDR-7506 headphones for tracking and live performing of drums to a click. VERY loud and decent isolation. They are, however, extremely bright, so you will probably want to EQ them a bit.

In that case can anyone recommend some cheap monitors that will do the job until i can get some real moeny together for a decent pair. I want cheap monitors but also not crap ones.

I couldn't agree more with the above statements about the importance of good monitors. I suggest putting off buying ANYTHING else until you've saved enough for the best monitors that you can possibly afford.

So is it decieving to believe home entertainment speakers(fairly expensive pioneers, mind you) are at all accurate when the effect setting is "flat"? Also, are those yorkvilles powered, if not what is needed to "power" them? Sorry if these seem to be ignorant questions but I'm just starting my research on what monitors to get as that seems to be the next only logical step.

Home stereo speakers don't make good reference monitors because they are made to boost the treble and bass, which is not what you want when trying to mix. You want your monitors to be flat.


The Yorkvilles arn't powered, although they just came out with some that are. You need an amp to power the passive ones. A home stereo amp will work, but eventually you'll want to buy a reference amp like a Hafler. Other good monitors are made by Event, Tannoy, Jbl, KRK.
