Headphones on a budget?

I am a newbie to all this home recording stuff. I just bought an Aardvark DP 2496 and I need some headphones to monitor. What are some suggestions on headphones that won't break by bank?

well, what is your idea of breaking the bank? how much you willingto spend?
 
I did alot of research on this subect and also recomend checking the headphone thread above.

I did and decided on the Sony 7506 and LOVE them. I listened to some of my favorite CD's for sound quality and the sonic detail and resonance blew me away! I have a pretty decent set of Paradigm home stereo speakers and these headphones are amazing. You DO NOT want to mix with these (or any headphones) but to get the best feel for what your sound is going to tape (or bytes) they are worth the $100. And you will want to listen to all your CD's again with the headphones to hear what you missed!

Guitar Center and just about everyone else has them for $99.
 
Gotta push the AKG's

At the risk of repeating myself.

I find that the Sony's color the sound, allow ambient noise into the cans and are far from comfortable.

Plus, my AKG's are now just short of 20 years old and get extremely heavy use. Never ever had a problem with them.

IMHO,the most basic,dependable,clear and low ear fatigue
along with an affordable price) is the AKG's 240 @ $70-90 !
 
SONY! SONY! SONY!!!!! (MDR7506)

I have multiple sets of them in my studio... love 'em!

I bought a pair of 7506's a few months ago. Sure, they sound great, but the deciding factor for me was usefulness. I only had enough for one pair, so I wanted to use them for as many things as I could. I wanted to be able to use them for monitoring while doing vocals, so fact that they are a closed design led me to choose them over a pair of similarly priced AKG's (can't remember which model).

naw....infact, you don't even need the cord, so I'd cut that off too- get it out of the way. Music isn't needed either...unless that is what you want to listen to on your headphones.

(oops...bad advice...sorry:D :D)
 
I just bought a Sennheizer E2270 for about 90$ and I'm very happy with it.

I have both the AKG240's ( about 15 yr old) and the MDR 7506. There is no comparison, the 240's sound like ass next to the sony. The Sennheiser HD600's are my favorite, but not nearly as loud as the 7506 and not the bass, yet more comfort and not the least fatiguing. HD600's make everything listenable, maybe not the phones for monitoring the main mix, a little to forgiving, but perhaps the phones for finiky musicians.
