I think everyone is right!
...But I'll give you my observation: If you want great sounding music to listen to and enjoy, can't beat Sony 7056. Bass comes alive, they rock, portable....perfect for DJ. HOWEVER, if you're mixing sound (I know this is dangerous because everyone says only mix with reference monitors) use AKG 240's--comfortable, excellent for flat response. If you're recording vocals while listening through headphones spend the extra $80 on AKG 271's (or 270's, but I think the 271's have replaced them). They'll even switch themselves off if you pull them off your head--minimal stuff to be picked up by the mic.

"Normal range of HUman hearing is about 20hz to 20,000hz. A few folks can hear vibrations starting at 15hz but the norm is 20.

Unless you have cat or mouse genes, you don't need any more range for recording and hearing."

Strictly this isn't true.
If your music you record is going to be played loud, and i mean club loud, then you will want a large range. Take MP3s for example, they are WAV files cut with alot of the top and bottom end removed. This is removed because supposedly humans can't hear the high and low bits. If you play the music loud however, it will have less bass kick. Listening to your recordings at a range of volumes (including loud!) is important.
Vintage is right. Although 15-20Hz is the bottom end of the human ear can dicern its not the bottom end that we can detect.

Sizing up the Sennheiser 265s

Aren't the 280's just $99.00? That's what mine were.

Yeah I got the 280s confused with the HD-25s.

I'm liking the 265s alot. They are very accurate and my whole bone structure vibrates when I crank up the low end of my mixes. The only down side I see (or hear for that matter) is the ear fatigue that seems to set in at about 45 minutes. Really this is probably a good thing for me, since I don't normally take breaks. Also, the cord could be a bit longer. The cord on my old Sennheisers was like 25 feet, which came in handy which I was recording vox or instruments in the next room over.

rock on

1 pair of behringer headphones i got for free
1 old studio headphones that isolate really well. (dont know what brand)
1 pair of sonys (dont remember which.... they were like $60)

meh

as long as i can hear it
