Sometimes a flouresent light or a dimmer will cause some hummage if it's on the same circuit. Those single coils are a pain for sure.

Buzzing

TJ, I was having the same problem with a Dean Markley Pro Mag Plus, (single coil acoustic pick up) this reallys sound like EMI to me. If the electricity is wired right, you can do what I did. (By the way to check if your outlets are wired right, you can pick up an outlet checking device for about $3.00 at Radio Shack) If you look at an electrical outlet you will notice that there is a little screw in the center of the faceplate between the two outlets, the primary function of this screw is to hold the faceplate on, it is also a grounding point. Loosen the faceplate screw just enough to open a gap between the head of the screw, and the faceplate. Take a small guage piece of old speaker wire, or something like that, and wrap it around the the faceplate screw (if you have a crimper and some spade connectors crimp an end on the wire as this will make it much easier) Tighten the faceplate screw back up. Take the other side of the wire and wrap it around the outer part of the connector on the guitar cable. This will "drain" the noise to ground and quiet things up quiet a bit. This is not a cure all, as all transducers (a device that transfers energy from medium to another in this case vibrating strings to a small electrical voltage) make noise. If you ramp the input gain up really high you will be adding noise no matter what you do. Let me know how things work out.

Until then...
Straight Ahead!

I was told to get a coated cable to take care of the buzzing so I will try that.
My next question is what do I need to do to export my songs from the recorder to my computer so I can burn them onto a CD? Can some one walk me through this? I have Windows XP.
Thanks.

The new cable took care of the humming noise but I still get this hissing noise when I touch the guitar strings but when I oull away it stops.........and ideas? I think it may be coming from the effects but not sure. What can I do?

Should have checked my spelling on the above...that is suppose to read "pull away".......and "any ideas?"

Monitor wise I have not gotten that far yet! :) Maybe after the drum machine, but only time will tell.
If anybody out there is looking for a good deal on a DP01FX, check out www.bswusa.com, they have a package deal, Sennheiser HD202 headphones, a Audio Technica AT2020 condenser mic and the DP01FX...all for $499! That's what I paid for my DP alone! The perfect starter package. I found this deal in the back of the new EQ magazine. Sweet deal it seems like!

Until Then...
Straight Ahead!

Just to let anyone interested in one of these machines know, I've seen the DP-01FX (yes, the FX verison) new with shipping inculded on ebay from dealers for $360.00.

I've been looking at this unit for a couple of weeks now and finally took delivery a few days ago. I have quite a lot of experience using pc based DAW's, but where i am now i wanted to create a setup that was free from a computer and something that would be intuitive and quick to operate for no frills straight up recording and the DP01 fits the bill perfectly.

The onboard fx were of no interest to me, neither were the XLR inputs as i already have a small mixer and a load of of outbaord fx, but for anyone who has some decent experience using DAW's and recording in general, let me tell you this thing is a cinch to operate.

Even the menu system i had figured out without looking at the manual. Simply hit menu button scroll down through options to desired feature, then use the right cursor key to move into desired feature. Then just use Enter key to execute, or Exit key to back out again, just like a cell phone.

What i also like about this machine that is very refreshing from the current crop of budget Multi's in that everything is there for a purpose with no useless gimmicks thrown in to attrack a potential buyer that will probably never get used. Just straight up no bullshit simple recording. And it has knobs!!

For anyone who is on a budget and doesn't need more than 2 tracks recording, and maybe has a small mixer and some fx, i cannot recommend this unit highly enough as it is a pleasure to operate something that is a breeze to use in this age of Pc recording. Designed for the Musician.

I'm very new to recording and just bought the DP-01FX. Are you assigning the track? are you plugged into the front panel correctly? i.e. front left for tracks 1-4 and front right for tracks 5-8?
