Head demagnetizer

ii know with most stuff you guys would vote against radio shack stuff, what abou a head demagnetizer? i dont feel like shelling out $50 for a new Tascam one, i could take my dads old realistic one from radio shack from 15 years ago. eh?
 
You can test that radio shack unit. Take a screwdriver and magnetize it by running it across a guitar speaker. It will be quite strong.Then demagnetize it . It should not pickup even a small paper clip after that.Im sure it will work just fine.
 
problem

is there a certain direction i should move it across the heads of the recorder? since my dad lost the instruction years ago will it be diffrent? or is it always move it in one direction only? i know there is a demag FAQ on here somewhere i will find it.
