I kept hearing how Windows Media Player 8 could decode HDCDs...I mean, it shows you the little logo and everything so it must be working, right?
Wrong.
All M$ literature specifies that WMP 8 can "Detect HDCD Mastered CDs." Detect, not decode.
They bought the damn company, you'd think they could integrate the decoding into their own software...
So, if you're looking for an effective 20-bits of digital goodness from properly encoded CDs, look elsewhere.
