do you think the sound quality and the converters in the HD core+96 system are the same with the 003? I know the performance does not.

assuming you chain, track, mix and master exactly 100% the same between the two setup, will you get the same quality?

There are a fair few differences between LE and HD to be able to get the exact same result.

The TDM 48 (56) bit mixer & Automatic Delay Compensation (which can be done manually but it's a pain) are two of the main ones.

They should sound really close though. I'm not sure about the converters. But the 003 has built in pre-amps, whereas the 96 i/o does not, it's just converters for line-level signals.

Having used both interfaces a lot, I feel that the 96 does sound better, and so it should at the increased price. But the difference isn't huge.

However the 003 is a great interface, and for the price you cannot knock it.

As Philbagg says, there are many other differences there too.

I say it to a lot of people: if you can't make a great sounding recording using a 003 then you're doing something wrong.

And the 003 preamps aren't as good as the 002 ones were so you would probably need to get some decent preamps even if you bought an 003 IMO. So i won't even count that as a difference.

Thats funny, most commentary I have read suggests that the 003 preamps are an improvement over the 002?

I suppose we are all entitled to our own opinion......
