Having fun with E Bows

I've got both versions. The newer with 2 setting is better IMHO. You can get the really gainy harmonic high tone or the slightly muffled, thick swell tone on the newer one. I often use it for harmonies, one setting for the main part and the other for the harmony. It tends to blend pretty well this way.
Now I REALLY want one!!!!

Anybody else use a real bow on electric bass? What are the pros and cons?
Oh, whoops, I just realized you said "real bow" and not "E-Bow." :o :o :o

*in best Emily Latila voice* Nevermind

Hmmmmm?

I never thought of using a real bow or an E-Bow on Bass.

Your idea is intriguing to say the least, Yvonne.

I used one on the intro of a collaboration tune called Sail Away with 60's guy, Gorty, True, Dogman, Nicole Rose, and Mad Audio-with 5 guitar players it was a good effect for sounding a bit different. :D

:) :) :) :) :) ;)

I've heard you can use it on a bass. Some guy uses two at once on a bass apparently.

Use one all the time - yes, the E-Bow II is far better - the overtone setting is wonderful. Takes a little getting used to, though, if you're going to be at all subtle with it.

Here's a thought - try your E-Bow with a harmonizer - sounds like a whole cello section if you get it just right!

i LOVE my ebow (i have the 2nd generation one). both settings are a lot of fun.

a volume pedal is instrumental in capitalizing on the ebow's utility......as is judicious use of the volume knob on the guitar--you can go from mellow synthy to full-on overdriven squeal in the span of a little turn on the knob.

they're a lot of fun in conjunction with a delay and chorus too.

Sound clips? Check out Roses By the Moon (
). Ebow is all over the intro and off and on throughout the song.

cheers,
wade

New guy in band has been doing this, which is what inspired me to start using it on guitar. I believe he uses a 1/2 cello bow and it sounds great. Just make sure to have enough rosin on the bow before trying to use it (oh, and it will make your strings tacky).

Michael Manring - great bassist.

I figured that the tacky part would follow.....1/2 cello bow sounds about right....wonder if it works better on flats or rounds....

I had an E-Bow eons ago when they were fresh on the market. Yes, I'm that old. I thought it was pretty cool but I never did use it that much, and eventually lost it or gave it away.....
