"borrowed", "stolen", "lifted", etc...

an idea, line, verse, etc. from someone elses song?

Just curious...I've used previous ideas, and possibly a line or two, but I don't think I've ever used an entire verse. :)

i wouldn't sweat it under one condition.... if it's being used as a hommage to the original author....
 
No, but I've gotten ideas by playing other people's songs.
 
There have been a few times when I've heard a word or a phrase in a song that inspired me to write something either in response to the phrase or perhaps building on a concept that I felt could take the phrase/word in a new or different direction. I have no doubt that I've heard things in songs that festered in my brain and eventually came out in some way

Never on purpose, but I have had the experience of hearing something on the radio that was wierdly similar to something that I had been working on. As if the song was just hanging around out there and up for grabs for whoever happened to tune in to it. Musta been the drugs...lol
