thing is this.. i have a Spector NS5CRFM neck-thru bass that has active electronic and EMG active pickups, crown inlays etc..

I love the way this thing feels, its size and its looks, etc.. but I have found myself really really wanting a different sound then this bass gives me. THE tone in my mind is more along the lines of a ernie ball stingray or vintige fender j, but I hate the way these things look for some reason and im really comfortable like I mentioned with my current bass besides the all important tone

My question would be if there would be a way to get a luthier to replace the pickups in my bass to make it sound the way I want.. is this realistic? Anyone have any ideas as to which pickups I should look for?

I play live so if I could get this thing to sound like I want I would actually even buy a second to have outfitted the same way. I really need some ideas here.

thanks

buy a stringray........ummmmmm check out the MTD kingston basses. Michael Tobais designed them so you know it's good. You can get them for like $500. They have a humbucker like the stingray. The web sit eis www.mtdbass.com. Also Ibanez has some new basses that look quite nice, I haven't had a chance to play them but I've heard good things.

thanks but I am trying to get rid of a ibanez edc705 right now.. nice sound but no one has that spector feel.. I knew people were going to say "buy a stingray" but thatts the whole point I love the way the better spectors play.. they are awesome.

then why don't you build a custom spector? to the specs of the stingray? well it 'll take a lot of cash...
