True, I did name his most popular stuff, but the psychedelia I was referring to applied to the rest of his catalog.

Of all the songs on Electric Ladyland, I only like two tunes.

And of all the songs on Are You Experienced, I only like one.

The live stuff I have is the same way: maybe one song that I dig, the rest to me is just toxic rambling.

OK....now that's a even-handed reasoned response. I have to respect that.....and in the end, it's all a matter of personal taste isn't it?
I, for instance, hate, and I mean HATE...Ted Nugent. But it's only my opinion, of course, and his many fans would gut me for saying that. :D

Is now a bad time to tell that I like Blood, Sweat, and Tears? :p
Man, their first album was their best.

Toki.....if you like B,S, & T, then you have to check out Jamiriquai if you haven't heard them yet.
Major influences from B,S,&T, Tower of Power and Stevie Wonder from his 'Inner Vision' years. They really turn out some awesome stuff.

Hey bro.....if you're gonna say someone sucks simply because you say so, and then say that if you say they suck then that means they suck with no discusiion because you say so.....then you're gonna have to expect some people to argue the point.
If you want to pontificate and then have people only respond in the narrow way you've decided....then you're in the wrong place.
As for trying to tell me what I can or can't say.........forget it.
All threads are whatever they turn into.
First of all...."Bro"??? Secondly, this is the U.S.A. Bob, and you are free to say what you wish, never would I imply anything else, but why would you come to a BBS and post a reply that has nothing to do with the topic?
I have posted 4 threads of this type. One for Worst tone (not playing), one for Best tone (not playing), one for best playing (not tone), and this one. I was looking for specific points of view on very specific topics for reasons that I chose not to disclose. I made it very clear that I was not looking for arguements to the oppisite, and EVEN SAID PLEASE. In every thread there was a few people that just didn't get it (I'm not sure but it seems that in all there were the same one or two, also). Those that don't get it all had the same attitude, so to all that it applies...please see the other threads for my response on this.

To the rest of you....keep bashing, some really suprising and well thought out responses. Seems I'm not the only one tired of being beat down by the mob for not following the flock.:p

P.S. Bob, REAL rock is about being angry, upset, depressed, insane, or just otherwise f**ked up in one way or another. Happy boy positive songs don't belong in rock unless you are Greg Brady, (we have pop and country for that crap). Negative opinions are not always bad, and not always a negative thing.....and it's amazing what one can learn from them if one keeps an open mind.;) Peace.

Another well thought out response and your points are well taken....... and I respect the fact that you've taken the time to spell out your thinking instead of just going on the attack....very cool of you..... so props to you on that. I always respect a thinker.

But I just don't see how you can have a discussion of the merits of various artists without there being some discussion concerning possible disagreement.
I went back and read your first post (which I did do at first BTW ) and yes, you did spell out your desire for noone to argue the points. But I just don't see how that can be. If I say I hate Nugent, I just, for the life of me, can't see how anyone who loves Nugent could avoid pointing out to me why they thought I was wrong.
So.....no offense intended toward you.....I was just joining in........
And, once again, real rock and roll is whatever the listener decides it is. I hate labels.

hey.... there's something I hate.....now I'm a legitimate contributor.

Bob I love Ted and could give you a bunch of reasons why I like him, but...please......Tell me why you don't.....what are you seeing, or hearing different than millions of fans, this is your chance to speak up louder than them...

this thread is "flame bait" if there ever was one...

I agree... You've basically covered this before. I think I've yet to see any real positive contribution to this board in the threads I've read by Toker. Every single thread I've read is basically saying "this sucks... He sucks... Those amps suck... You suck... I'm so cool because I say things suck..."

Now you want to add in your opinion on which rock stars are gay or not, which means their music sucks...

Uuummmm... ok?

This thread sucks.

(Toker, please don't respond to this. Why not? I said so. I just made up a rule. And it's a free country. And I don't suck. )

Yes you do.
If for no other reason, just because your response has nothing to do with the topic. I didn't start this thread to start sh*t, but you responded to do just that. If you don't like the thread then don't take part, why do you have to rain on the parade of those that do? And I did not start it to contribute, but rather to gather information.

I can't help but to notice that the four post I have of this type have some of the highest number of response, if nothing else (and I do get positive informantion from these threads), it helps and keeps the site active and interesting. If you don't like the threads why do you read them? You can always put me on you ignore list. BTW...there are many good brands of decaf on the market that taste just as good as the real thing.......
....just something you should think about.

Now, just to shut up the ones that think I don't like anything...

PS. I would like to add to the list of bands that SUCK....
...THE DEAD!!! Hate them and thier smelly ass, don't want to work, stuck in the 60's, hippie tree hugging fans.

OK, now here I agree with you. With the sole exception of "Stranglehold", I can't stand his music. When I bought Weekend Warriors I was hoping to understand all the hype. What I got was badly performed and TERRIBLY produced music. I have yet to hear any Nugent that has changed my opinion.

I can only think of three grossly overrated detestable stupid miserable fat bastard ugly wish they had never been born pretentious no-talent no-account bands.

The first one is Dave, the second Matthews, and the last one is Band.

I'd rather have headphones super glued on my head with Hootie & the Blowfish piped in 24/7 while Mike Tyson punches me in the face than listen to a single DMB song ever again.

Purely opinion, based on taste, or lack thereof, bands I really don't like to listen to.

SUCKS:

The Who
most of the Stones
Elvis (and his band/s I guess)
Alice Cooper
Slayer (even though I love them)
definitely Jimi Hendrix! (I've never sat through a whole song, and never once listened to that guy of my own volition.)
Iron Maiden without BD
VH without Roth (5150...not so bad)
Any ballad by Paul Gilbert or Nuno Bettencourt (does that count?)
Ted Nugent
Def Lepard after Pyromania
Every punk band I've ever heard except for the Sex Pistols
Every country band I've ever heard except for Johnny Cash (though I do love all those nippley videos:))
Every Leonard Cohen wannabe I've ever heard (can't remember any of their names)
Poison
Almost everything on Q107 (Toronto radio station, classic rock)
Anything my mom had on when I was growing up

...

But the best of the worst, most over-rated, under-deodorized unpaid, god-I-want-to-kill-myself-when-I-hear-it-but-hey-that-sounded-great-when-I-was-drunk band in the world is:

me:)

I'd rather put on RUSH and listen to Alex Lifeson hobble on through one of his "Is this the right string? Did I plug my amp in?" solos anyday rather actually have to listen to myself:D

Ah, just having fun.
Shawn:)

Oh well... Now I've been put in my place. You read a comment of mine in another thread and slammed one of my bands. Gosh how will I live now that Toker has said The Dead suck?

Just for reference, I have kept out of most of your flamebait threads... Just got tired of seeing the same shi*t come up over and over again.

We all have our opinions and they're all worth as much as the next guy's. Until we all put our money where our mouths are and pick up the guitar and write some songs and sell a million albums and influence a generation etc. etc. etc. we're all just talking out of our opinion-holes...

(Now would someone start calling people Nazi's and get this thread overwith already? :D )

Really, try the decaf. That Dead post had nothing to do with you. Man, you claim this to be a negative thread, but you are the only one that is being negative to any memeber on it. If you don't like, ok, just move on and stop pissing down my back my back.

Even though this is a forum to find out how much people's tastes differ with respect to guitar players, it's hard to take it seriously when the starter of the thread lists Kiss and Ted Nugent as favorites, ugh.

Damn.. I have never seen a list I came so close to complete agreement with, except that I totally dig Slayer and that I have never heard your stuff so I can't comment.

What does the above quote mean? Do you like the bandmembers and not the music?

Cy

I totally love them, but they're like so aggressive (even though I'm sure I've lstened to other equally and more aggressive bands) that it just melts my head after half an hour or so, and I've gotta turn it off. Maybe I'm getting old or something, I'm still listening to the original tapes from when the albums were released, right back to Show No Mercy.

Come to think of it, it's kinda like an orgasm. You be dead if that lasted for 30 minutes:(

:)

Hendrix?

C'mon, you can't simply classify rhythm playing like "Little Wing," "Angel," "Belly Button Window," or his songwriting skills as "noise"..

I doubt anybody here criticizing Jimi can play or write with equal skill or innovation as Jimi.

But, taste is in the eye of the beholder.

I like the guitar too much not to appreciate Jimi Hendrix.

Does this suck? Im floundering here..

The Barry Manilou Live album was absolutely diamond, if you could drop the gay visual and listen to the production and the meat in the music.
