Has this got potential?

J to the R O C
I have been listening to the Born to Run album alot lately. I have tried to use piano/keys (well, VSTis) to start a melody and then complement it with guitars. I don't play piano so this is contrary to the way in which I used to come up with ideas. Here's a very rough mix of a song I made today. It's called "The Circuit" for now.

The keys sound pretty cool although I think they would sound better with different samples. I like to use Steinbergs The Grand 2 this kinda sounds more like a free vsti. Your piano playing is quite good for not playing. The drums are little low in the mix besides that its pretty cool.

You mean my piano-DRAWING! I can't tell the notes apart, I'll ahve to start practicing on my keyboard.

Yeah thats the MDA piano, it IS a free VSTi! Good spot!

Yeah I must bring the drums up or take some verb off them. Do you think the composition is any good?

Thank you for the insight Watermelon. Tim, do you mean an upright piano yeah?

I'm guessing he does - as opposed to a bass, you mean? Yeah, it would rock on an old piano. Dude, we need a piano. they're only a hundred quid in Buckleys at the moment.

Really??? Did you see one?

I really enjoyed this song Tele. Piano sounds pretty good, I think a better VSTi would really improve things. But it still sounds good even with the free one.

I'd like to hear it with vocals and maybe a couple good guitar solos. ;)

Guitar is on its way...sadly vocals never go on anything I do because I can't sing.

What did you use for drums? This song sounds really cheesy :D It's got potential if you make the drums more complex...

You're an immense tool. Check back tomorrow, I'll see if I can put some of your rip-your-nurtz-off guitar in. You're my inspiration.

i think it has potential but at the moment it's not moving me. it sounds thought out, written, whatever. i agree with everyone else on the piano. a piano with more character and detail would be a nice touch.

Cool I'll keep the midi file. I'm gonna layer more stuff tomorrow, I havn't the money for a good piano VSTi.

This has good potential, in fact it sounds very solid with keys and drums. I'm not real familiar with piano sounds so I can't comment there, it sounds okay to me. The arrangement is good, varied and melodic. The drums parts fit well with the piano. This stands up well as an instrumental. I would keep this For now and maybe try a version with some additional vocals/instruments just to see where it could go.... Nice playing.... : )

Thanks, it's serving as a pad for some ideas.

Nice sounding chords, TelePaul

I agree with the "upright piano" suggestion, in that it will dirty up/ humanize the sound a bit.

I like the chords, but becuse it's written out, and not played, there are none of the slight tempo and volume variations that add expression. A slightly out of tune "upright" piano patch might help that a bit. Maybe some time stretching to add expressiveness might do it, too.

So just dirty it up a bit and it will come alive.

Thanks Obi I think I'll ahve to find a new VSTi.

I don't know if you noticed but on my song, the piano isn't in perfect timing. It makes it more natural. ;)
