I'm setting up a new computer, I've decided to go with an amd, cause it's cheap, the Layla site, said to use chipsets 760, 760MP. Kx133, KT-133, KT-266, KT-133A.

I went with the 761, on the Gigabyte, 7XDR.
but I can't decide if I want to get windows 2000.
The Layla20 only has beta drivers for 2000.
Has anyone tried them?
How did they work?
Is the stablity of 2000 worth it even if you can't use anything?

BTW, I'm using cool edit pro 1.2a.

Version 1.6 for 2000 was pretty finnicky. Froze my system quite a few times before I took it off.

I haven't tried the WDM drivers yet. But the readme sounds a lot more confident than it used to. Once I get my PC rebuilt (about another week or so) I can let you know how they run. Although, I don't have an AMD based system.

What kind of system do you use?

P3?
Windows 98, or 98SE?

I was running a couple of Celeron 550s. I am in the process of upgrading to a couple of PIII 800s. Windows 2000.

What Dual Motherboard do you use?

What Dual Motherboard do you use?

On a side note, after talking to Echo via email a few times, they've said the only thing you can really do is try the drivers and see if they work. I'd shoot them an email and see if antone at echo has had luck with your board. And try a search on google.com, or another BBS.

Check out their readme as well. In my limited experience, their readme has been pretty honest. All of the problems I had were documented. And they have made progress from their earlier versions (I ran version 1.4 a while ago, and it crapped out right after I pressed record in Cool Edit Pro. 1.5 worked for the first take after installation/reinstall, then died immediatley after. 1.6 died after afew takes. I kept Layla in on the last project I did only for the spdif in/out which worked fine.)

Echo said the problem was related to the dual processor system I have. So the best thing I can advise is to either try it your self, or find someone with a similiar system to yours and ask.

BTW, when the thing has worked, I love it.

Thanks

Yeah I've already been using my Layla 20 for about a year, and it works great, I just wish I could get another, 8 more inputs would help alot, since I've got 8 mics on my drums. Well thanks anyway.
