i don't think i've ever seen one has anyone else heard anything about this?

i found this Nady Lightning http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Nady-Lightning-Wireless-Guitar-and-Amp-Package?sku=515707 wireless guitar & amp package, although they seem to have discontinued it

"The guitar's built-in VHF wireless transmitter with internal antenna lets you play without cords up to 200' line-of-sight when used with the included WGA-15 wireless guitar amp or any Nady VHF Wireless receiver on the same channel." (from its page on Musician's Friend)

that sounds like a nice feature, i am annoyed by cords & cables etc

It goes like this,

Choose the guitar you like.
Choose the amp you like.
Choose the manner in which you connect them to each other.

The first two are interchangeable. You can of course choose a guitar because it has "neat" feature that doesn't impact on it's playability or tone. Your call.

I gotta hand it to you Multi, that was Classic!

That's because I have a degree in the "bleedin' obvious".;)

What I should have said is "if you want you can jump straight to step three" but that would have been too complicated for my friend catstink.;)

That's all right, I invented the Bluetooth guitar yesterday, I'll just wait for them to copy it :)

Thats all we need people walking down the street playing bluetooth air guitar. It's impossible to tell the nutters from the crowd already..:D

I imagine the POS that must be...lol...I think Behringer tried to make thier own Variax but failed because it didnt work and the guitar part was atrocious..

Hehe, the Behri-axe. I never did see or play one of those. I can only imagine, yuck.

I wonder if Bluetooth would be a good candidate for wireless instruments? The current wireless units are prone to interference. I wonder if that could be avoided by using the Bluetooth standard? I don't know much about it so I don't really know its shortcomings.

Air guitar doesn't need wireless doodads - it's already free of such artificial thethering of guitaresque free spirits to the earth (as well as + & -).
Now, if you had sufficient power in the guitar you could send a electrical charge across time & space to be collected by a willing accomplice with some wires held out at a risque angle.
Oh, Oh, Oh, you could disassemble your iPlod & use it's innards along with one of those MP3 player transmitters & set up a car radio connected to your amp & get your signal that way.
You could employ an imp to sit on your amp with a guitar just like yours except connected to the amp of course, & have him watch very carefully every move, chord, run, bend & nuance you make & replicate it in real imp time on his instrument.
You could write to Angus Young & ask what he's been using for 20 years.
You could buy a cheap instrument transmitter / receiver set up & plug that in too.
BUT buying a proprietry guitar and amp set up would mean making compromises with both as well as meaning if one breaks down the other won't be of any use until the other is repaired (a bit like having your HD reciver built into the HD TV or trying to use a real MP3 with your iPlod without buytunes).
You'd be amazed at how many people need 200ft line of sight radius running room from their 15w practice amp! Richie Sambora uses on - but he has to keep the dunny door open.

Dunno, the Bluetooth thing was a joke I carried over from another thread.

i'm sure not long from now most if not all electric guitars will be wireless, with built in effects & more on the guitar itself like most of our computerized stuff is now. the crappy versions and prototypes that are out now i'm sure will be vastly improved upon. much like how the original big computer was (forgot the nickname, i think it was big mother or something like that), i'm sure that was scoffed at too, now look at them today! i think it would be cool to try one that isn't as crappy as people say the Nady version is.

No, I think the DSP will be centralized in a single portable device. Otherwise every device would need constant upgrades rather than just one (plus the less expensive transmitters). Muttley is right--a guitar should remain an analog* device, all you need is a little wireless bug to plug into it, that keeps your guitar from planned obsolescence.

The original electronic computer was either Colossus or ENIAC, depending on how you score that. I don't think anybody who knew about Colossus thought it was a joke; it saved many Allied lives.

* There is some merit to having MIDI pickups, but even now these are being rendered obsolete by DSP able to extract fundamental tones from a single analog signal and thus yield six individual triggered data streams.

woops, i should add that i shouldn't of said 'sure' (incase kc is reading;):p) i meant that i have a sneaking suspicion that its highly possible, and that it could soon become similar to the analog digital thing where some will stand by the old way, some the new, some both, maybe even some none, no big deal really.

Not just that but, essentially a guitar is an ergonomic tool. I draw similarities with things like TV's with built in dvd's or cars with loads of wizz bang extras. In short it's just more to go wrong and when it does you're stuck with it.. I don't want a dvd built into a TV or DVD screens in my car seat backs, I'd rather buy a car and add the extras third party. In the long run it's easier to upgrade and maintain.

As you say there really isn't much of a call for a guitar with built in pre's, effects, wireless transmitters etc. If there was people would be queuing up to buy them. Much easier to add that stuff after market and keep the guitar as long as you want.
