Maybe the lesson to be learned is to use the novel act of ASKING for
permission for someone like Stephen to share some technical knowledge
with us, rather than skipping that important step for whatever reason.
It wasn't originally a simple request for info BTW, it was to get a list
of improvements and "replicate" them on our own.
The point is not just to treat Stephen with respect because he's
"good at what he does", it's to treat ALL bbs members with civility,
even when they don't pen things the exact way we want to hear them.

An old saying that stuck with me through the years from a radiologist I once worked with applies here:

"Its not WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it"

:)

I actually did email to ask him prior to all this shit starting, and I was awaiting a reply when this all happened.
Lets let it go, everyone. Please? Let it die. My mistake. Its over.
Peace.

All you need now is a blessing from Harvey "the pope" to be forgiven.

Seriously, I hope that you and Stephen square things away without
any hard feelings either way, so things go back to normal.
We all make misteaks!

Yup, and I made a beaut. This has gotten way out of hand.

Monday, I will call Tony Merrill at Stephen Paul Audio and have him ship my mics back, unmodified. My friendship with Stephen is strong enough to weather this misunderstanding, but the modification is just not worth all the strong words on both sides of this issue. I can live with my V67Gs just fine, just as they are.

If I really need an outstanding microphone at some point, I will just buy one of Stephen's mics, whenever he decides to produce them.

There are a few people on this BBS who disappointed me by their harsh response to Stephen's posting. For those of you who still don't get it, I said initially I would TRY and get a list of "what was done and why", meaning clearly (at least to me) that any such list would have to first be approved by Stephen for distribution, who would disclose whatever he chose to disclose.

Twenty some posts ago, I asked people to let this thread die - it didn't. I'm asking the same thing again. If my past posts at homerecording have helped you improve your recordings, please do me a favor and let this post be the last post on this subject.

Please. This type of thread is really upsetting to me, especially since it involves a dear friend, who simply offered to do me a personal favor, and now, it's degenerated into a war of rights and political correctness.

I would never do anything to jepordize my friendship with Stephen, and I know that Stephen knows that. If I have to withdraw from this forum, I would do that, albeit with a great deal of sadness for the loss of the many friendships I've made here.

I'm not trying to threaten anyone; I don't have the power or the inclination to do that. These types of threads really upset me, and I'm just pleading with everyone who feels strongly about this thread to just let it stop here, and now.

harvey, you seem like a really nice guy!
... Thats all i wanted to say

Harvey,

I've really enjoyed reading your posts. I especially loved the microphone mega thread. I live in OKC and used to be a jazz studies major at UNT. If I ever got down there again, then I'd thought about calling you up about buying you a very nice dinner as a thank you for all the knowledge you've shared.

Anyhow, you didn't start anything at all inappropriate. I don't think anyone envisioned some sort of secret knowledge leak. Me, I was more thinking that it'd be nice to hear a stock MXL versus the SP mod to see if SP mods would be something I'd consider in the future for other mics. I'm not enamored at all of the MXL (one of the places I disagree with yourself) so I thought it'd be fairly interesting to hear a mod, if you posted up a file, as I'm already a skeptic.

Don't stop posting. Please don't get your mics back before SP mods them. I've posted at his forum. He's a fairly nice gentleman like yourself. Don't worry. Be happy.

Steve

Jonkan and Ozraves, your points I'm sure have been well-taken.

But you heard the man. PLEASE let it die. :) Thanks.
